Reading Time: 3 minutesVeeam announced two new offerings which combine the confidence and reliability of Veeam’s backup and restore capabilities with the ease-of-use of Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS). The news is that those two offers are not delivered through cloud partners, but directly as a Veeam’s portfolio service called Cirrus by Veeam. Cirrus by Veeam was acquired from CT4, an Australian company who developed the cloud-native service utilizing Veeam’s industry-leading data backup and ransomware recovery platform.

Reading Time: 4 minutesVeeam Continuous data protection (CDP) is a technology that helps you protect mission-critical VMware virtual machines when data loss for seconds or minutes is unacceptable. CDP also provides minimum recovery time objective (RTO) in case a disaster strikes because CDP replicas are in a ready-to-start state. First, CDP creates replicas and, then, keeps these replicas up to date. CDP constantly replicates I/O operations performed on VMs. To read and process I/O operations in transit between the protected VMs and their underlying datastore, CDP uses vSphere APIs for I/O filtering (VAIO) that gives an option not […]

Reading Time: 4 minutesPure Storage has been working with Veeam since 2017 to provide storage snapshot integrationleveraging Veeam’s Universal Storage Application Programming Interface (USAPI). With the release of Veeam Data Platform and Veeam Backup & Replication v12, Veeam hasadvanced the functionality of this API with USAPI v2. USAPI v2 includes the orchestrationof replicated snapshots and the ability to offload/archive storage snapshots in their nativesnapshot format to secondary storage for longer term retention. Pure Storage has beenVeeam’s development partner through the USAPI v2 development effort and is the first storagevendor with a software plugin able to take advantage of […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesOne requirement for using CDP replication with Veeam product is Installing I/O Filter on each cluster where the VMs that you plan to protect reside and where replicas will reside (on each ESXi host of the cluster). The CDP I/O Filter are basically a VAIO plugin added using a VIB package. To install the filter on a specific cluster using the Veeam Console just open the Inventory view. In the inventory pane, navigate to the Virtual Infrastructure > VMware vSphere > vCenter Servers > <vCenter Server Name> > <Cluster Name> node and right-click it. In the menu, select Install I/O filter. For more information see the Veeam documentation. […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesWhen operating in Standalone or Managed by agent mode, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows version 5 and all previous versions utilize Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB (as described in this article: Veeam Endpoint Backup goes GA). With Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows version 6 the LocalDB is no longer in use, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.0 uses SQLite database instead of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB (the new database path is: C:\ProgramData\Veeam\EndpointData).
