Reading Time: 2 minutes In the night (in my timezone) between March 17th and 18th I’ve received an email with this subject: Congratulations, you have been selected as 2014 Dell TechCenter Rockstar! The content of the mail explain the program and the criteria: The Dell TechCenter (DTC) Rockstar program recognizes independent experts and enthusiasts for their significant positive impact on Dell TechCenter, blogs and social media when discussing Dell. After careful review of numerous applicants and nominations, we think you would be a great fit for our exclusive group.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Some years ago, I’ve write some posts on how install Dell OpenManage on VMware ESXi. The OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) is a Dell tool really useful for a central management or to be integrated in other Dell’s management tools. There are different options, but basically the most used ways are: Use the Dell ESXi custom image that already include also a version of OMSA (not necessary the latest) Use the command line Use VMware Update Manager The last option is my preferred option because is really faster and simplest.

Reading Time: 2 minutes In the previous post we have described how the command line of a Dell PowerVault storage allows several more operations compare the graphical interface. For example, the disk initialization is just one of the several troubleshooting cases where it becomes mandatory to rely on the command line (or on technical support). Another case is where the RAID of a disks group go into the “corrupted” state: at that point, again, there is no simple solution because you have limited options in the graphical interface. Again, the solution is switch to the command line and use the […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes One of the advantages of Dell PowerVault storage, with the MDxxx series, is that they use disks with identical bays of the server version (obviously depending on the generation, there will bays like the G9 servers or  bays with the same G10, G11, G12 servers form factor). In addition, disks are theoretically interchangeable because are the same models (almost from Seagate vendor, ad least for spinning disks). However, in practice, this was true with MD30xx models and derivatives, but with the recent series (MD32xx or MD36xx), there are some limitation based on the firmware version […]

Reading Time: 2 minutes Dell Enterprise Forum (DellEntForum) is the new name of the event previously named Dell Storage Forum. Worldwide there were already some events with this new name, but only on 2014 there will be the first EMEA event (properly this should be the third Dell’s EMEA event, after London and Paris Storage Forums): EMEA event: 14-17 April 2014 | Frankfurt, Germany

Reading Time: 8 minutes Some months ago I described the characteristics of a new Dell’s product, intended to redefine the existing server form factors and the server converged concept: Dell PowerEdge VRTX is the first and so far only Dell product (at present there aren’t similar solutions for other vendors) to merge together three different form factors (tower, rack and blade) into one with unique characteristics. It could be defined a Data Center in a box, or (using a quote from Dell) a (private) Cloud in a box. Basically it’s an integrated tower format system (complete with wheels if […]

Reading Time: 2 minutes Dell EqualLogic is a well know name in iSCSI storage and it does not any presentation. But the “converged” version for the M1000e blade enclosure maybe need more information. I’ve see a prototype (Code name: Colossus) during the Dell Storage Forum at London and it was absolutely interesting and promising. The final product is called Dell EqualLogic PS-M4110 Blade Array and it’s fully compatible with the exiting PowerEdge M1000e enclosures (designed and realized several years ago) with the only requisite to have at least one 10Gbps fabric (and of course have an updated firmware).
