Reading Time: 2 minutesOne possible issue during an upgrade to VMware vSphere 5.1 or 5.5 (but also in a new installation) is related with the introduction of the the SSO (introduced in vSphere 5.1) component in vCenter Server that handle the authentication across the different vCenter Server components, but also against the users. In some cases you may have the following issues during the user autentication: You can log into vCenter Server 5.1 or 5.5 with the vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client only with local users Logging into vCenter Server 5.1 or 5.5 using the vSphere Client […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesIn most cases (in small environment) a default installation of vCenter Server and its components could work. Considering that the default disk of Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 is 40 GB (at least in a VMware virtual environment) it can store all the installation without any directory changes. Except for the Upload Manager (VUM) that need a reasonable space for store the patches (usually not more than 20GB, but in some case also more, and the installer suggest at least a 120 GB disk). If you forget to change the patches directory during the […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesIn some cases you may have a pending VMware Horizon View pool deletion task that does not finish for several reasons: usually when you have modify or delete some VM’s pool directly from the VMware vCenter Server instead from the View Manager. In those cases you will not be able to remove those pool anymore and probably you will not able to build VM with the same pattern. You can fix this issue manually using those VMware KB: Manually deleting linked clones or stale virtual desktop entries from VMware View Manager 4.5 and later (2015112) […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAfter the release of the the new vCloud Suite 5.5, the Horizon View 5.3, now it’s the turn of the general availability of VMware vCloud Automation Center (vCAC) 6 and vCenter Operations (vCOPS) Manager 5.8. Both were announced during the last VMworld Europe, in the VMware Cloud Management vision. Both present interesting function of cross-products and cross-cloud/environments.

Reading Time: 3 minutesNot only the VMware Horizon View 5.3 has been released but also the related Feature Pack 1. It’s available, as usual, in a dedicated download area. It also include the new Blast 2.2 protocol (aka the HTML5 access) that bring some interesting in term of performance and speed and reduce the big gap between the PCoIP protocol (for more info see also PCoIP vs. Blast). For the installation and configuration procedure the notes in the post about the 5.2 View version are still valid.

Reading Time: 4 minutesFinally the new Horizon View is now available for the download. It’s the version compatible with vSphere 5.5. To use View Storage Accelerator in a vSphere 5.5 or later environment, a desktop virtual machine must be 512GB or smaller. View Storage Accelerator is disabled on virtual machines that are larger than 512GB. Virtual machine size is defined by the total VMDK capacity. For example, one VMDK file might be 512GB or a set of VMDK files might total 512GB. This requirement also applies to virtual machines that were created in an earlier vSphere release and […]

Reading Time: 5 minutesThe new VMware vSphere 5.5 has some interesting new features and scalability properties that make interesting for each new environment, but also for existing customers (considering that the license key remain still the same of the 5.x feature). So could make sense start using directly this version instead of the 5.1 and upgrade all existing environment to the new version 5.5? Like each new version you have to make some consideration first and especially before starting the upgrade procedure. The main consideration is that each new product (does not matter that is a major or […]
