Browsing Posts in VMware

Reading Time: 3 minutesStarting from the 5.2 version, VMware View is now called VMware Horizon View (according with the new position in the VMware Horizon Suite). But the upgrade path (of the View part) is still quite similar with previous version (see also VMware View 5.1.2 update or VMware View 5.1 upgrade path) and is well described in the Upgrade guide.

Reading Time: 3 minutesI’ve already write a post with the comparison between PCoIP and RDP (PCoIP vs. RDP) and some considerations on how use each protocol in a VMware View infrastructure. Other protocols, like HP RGS (Remote Graphics Software) has been removed (from View) years ago, and protocols from other solutions (like, for example, SPICE) are not included. But now there is also the HTML5 option (Blast protocol) included with the Horizon Suite or with the Feature Pack of Horizon View (see this post on how enable it).

Reading Time: 3 minutesVMware Horizon View 5.2 HTML5 Access is a new way to access your virtual desktop using the Blast protocol. Actually is not integrated in the standard Horizon View package, but you need to download the required packages from the Horizon View Feature Pack section:

Reading Time: 2 minutesOn Apr 25, VMware has released some important updates for its products: VMware vSphere 5.1U1: see ESXi Release Notes, vCenter Server Release Notes Several existing bugs are now resolved (especially the beacon probing issue) VMware vCloud Director 5.1.2: see the Release Notes VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.1.10: see the Release Notes VMware vSphere Replication 5.1.1: see the Release Notes VMware VSA (vSphere Storage Appliance) 5.1.3: see the Release Notes VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1.1: see the Release Notes VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.1.0

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMworld public session voting was opened some hours ago, but there are already some interesting sessions title. Seems that “network virtualization” will be a buzzword of 2013 edition, with also a new product: VMware NSX. VMware NSX supplies the same benefits to network virtualization that ESXi supplies to server virtualization and makes it possible to rapidly deploy network and security services by decoupling those services from the underlying network hardware and how this abstraction provides hardware independence. But more interesting is the session proposal #4729: Join the Network Virtualization Revolution by Becoming VMware’s Newest VCP, […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesAs discussed, all the VMware exams have a release version that depend only by the major number of the related products (or suite). And usually are all agnostic on the minor number. But the only way to be sure is check the related blueprint and verify the content (a simple and fast way could be check the document links). But there are also some specific notes depending by the certification path.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteRecently there were some changes in the VMware Certifications Portal: The “old” VCP certification, renamed some months ago in VCP-DV and been (again) renamed in VCP-DCV (so we have VCP4-DCV and VCP5-DCV certifications). Some changes are applied to VCDX certification (VCDX4-DCV and VCDX5-DCV). Other certifications related to datacenter virtualization path actually remain with the current name (VCAP-DCA, VCAP-DCD). A new VCAP exam has been added and is the VCAP5-DTD, the one design related for the EUC path. All certification related paths as been rebuild with a new graphics… not sure if is better than before.
