After the big announce in the previous week, now Big Switch Networks will launch its BSN Labs to the public.

What is BSN Labs? It’s an online portal to test drive its SDN products, including Big Cloud Fabric and Big Tap Monitoring Fabric… like a hands-on-lab it could be very useful also for understand how the products works and its features.

While traditional networking products require access to physical hardware in order to use or test products, Big Switch Labs enables instant online testing of its products via this one-of-a-kind demo environment.

So not only the new releases of some VMware products have been announced… but also new certifications, new levels and new paths.

The VMware certification roadmap announced at VMworld 2012 was almost clear and related to the tecnologies used (and owned by VMware) at that time. But, except the moving of the developer certification to the Pivotal initiative, the paths have been the same until now (with the new entry of Network Virtualization) and the new VCA level.

During the VMware Online Launch Event, live from the VMware Partner Exchange event, Pat Gelsinger (VMware Chief Executive Officer) and Ben Fathi (VMware Chief Technology Officer) have announced the new release of their main product: VMware vSphere.

The VMware vision announced (or confirmed if you prefer) during the Partner Exchange 2013 was all around three main points: Software Defined Datacenter, Hybrid Cloud and End User Computing.

Most news (or the most important) are around the first point, considering that the several previous announces have already covered the Hybrid Cloud strategy and that the EUC area.

The design of the VMware vCenter Server and related services has several decision that you have to take, and of course some of them will change with the version number of this products (for example SSO design are different from 5.1 and 5.5).

Big Switch Networks is a company in the Software Defined Network (SDN) area with a clear declared mission: to bring hyperscale networking to a broader audience, by delivering fit-for-purpose products based on hyperscale networking technologies.

They have two main products: Big Tap Monitoring Fabric and Big Cloud Fabric. The first one is an entry level solution for monitoring existing networks, the second one is an advanced bare-metal SDN switching fabric intended for new data center pods such as private cloud, big data and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

First version of Big Cloud Fabric (BCF) was announced on July 2014 and the second version (2.0) on September 2014. Now they are announcing that Big Cloud Fabric 2.5 will become generally available on January, 28th 2015.
