CloudPhysics announce with a blog post (Who’s minding your storage zoo? Try CloudPhysics new storage analytics) a new functions of their product: the storage analytics aim to provide data about your storage (and datastore) environment in order to resolve (or avoid) common issues, especially the storage capacity and performance aspects.

Their SaaS solution is absolutely interesting and I’ve write about them in my #VFD3 report, but what is really interesting, like in this case, is that they are using customer’s feedbacks to improve the product and make their day-to-day virtual data center operations smoother.

VFD-LogoDuring the second day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) one of the companies that we (as delegates) met was CommVault, a company in the backup and data protection field and, of course, in the virtualization environment.

But it’s quite limiting say that it’s just a backup company (although it’s well know mainly for this aspect), backup and restore capability is obviously a core part of their service offering. And probably one of the limit of their presentations at #VFD3 was that they were too much focused only on the backup aspects, and not enough on the others that can help in differentiate the product and the solution.

We have talk about CommVault Simpana software (Simpana 10 release) and their features for the virtualization world. There were also a lot of discussion about the positioning and the comparisons with other solutions (from my point of view some topics were too much biased and maybe not so relevant, but I’ve appreciated the discussion and the NDR session on the new next features).

VFD-LogoDuring the first day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) one of the companies that we (as delegates) met was Pure Storage (in their cool office in Mountain View) that is a company in the storage world and of course also in the virtualization world.

The realize storage both on the software and on the hardware part, although this second one is completely build by Pure Storage, expect the Lego version of their storage (that I suppose was the same used in this contest). Their solutions fits in the all flash enterprise storage approach where only flash technology is used on storage side.

VFD-LogoDuring the second day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) one of the companies that we (as delegates) met was Spirent, that was (at least for me) a new name in the virtualization ecosystem. The company itself is well know in other fields and area, especially in test, measurement and service assurance solutions.

There where pioneered in testing of Ethernet networks, IP Telephony and VoIP, VPNs, Multiplay, Cloud Computing environments, Data Center networks, CDMA applications, and Location Based Services. Spirent’s lab test solutions are used to evaluate performance of the latest technologies. As new communication services and applications are introduced in the market, Spirent provides tools for service management and field test to improve troubleshooting and quality. Spirent also enables enterprises, institutions and government agencies to secure and manage their networks.

VFD-LogoDuring the first day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) the first company that we (as delegates) met was CloudPhysics, and was really a great way to start the #VFD3.

CloudPhysics helps systems administrators make smart, data-driven decisions. Their groundbreaking SaaS platform brings Big Data analytics to your virtualized datacenter, generating fresh operational insights that you can act on with certainty.

Big Data technology is used by companies across numerous industries to discover new ways to improve operations. Ironically, one industry that is missing from the list is IT itself. CloudPhysics goal is to bring the power of Big Data analytics to every datacenter, capturing data about virtualized infrastructure, analyzing it, and providing unique insights that help IT teams make smarter data-driven operational decisions. Today, our idea is coming to fruition as hundreds of customers and users deploy our SaaS app.

VFD-LogoDuring the first day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) one of the companies that we (as delegates) met was Atlantis Computing that was a well known company VDI environments, but some weeks ago they have also enter officially in the storage arena with the announce of Atlantis ILIO USX™ (Unified Software-defined Storage) solution.

I’ve already write about Atlantis ILIO products and how their unique host caching solution could be interesting in several cases (mostly in VDI environments). Those solutions are appreciated by more than 440 customers (500,000 VM licenses sold globally).

But the Atlantis ILIO USX™ solution change all the rules, bringing a Software-defined Storage (100% software based) purpose-built for virtualized server workloads such as databases, big data and any line of business application.
