VMware has announced the new VMware Horizon Suite: the platform for workforce mobility. Core of the VMware’s End User Computing (EUC) vision it is based on this point:
- Transform: Simplify desktops, diverse apps and data into centralized services
- Broker: Manage & Secure centrally and broker services to your workforce by policy
- Deliver: Empower your workforce with flexible access across devices, locations and connectivity
It’s a suite of products designed to handle applications, data, desktop and deliver them though different device in a controlled way:
The suite will include different products:
- VMware Horizon Workspace
- VMware Horizon View 5.2 (previous was VMware View)
- VMware Horizon Mirage 4.0
- VMware Horizon Data (code name was project Octopus)
VMware Horizon View
The new version will include a lot of improvements in user experience:
- Hardware Accelerated 3D Graphics (also enables shared access to physical GPU hardware)
- Support for Microsoft Lync 2013 with Rich Media Services
- Support for Windows 8 based desktops & clients (client where already supported, but virtual desktops where not officially supported)
- Streamlined access to View Desktops from Horizon Workspace
- Easily connect to desktops from any device with HTML Access (project AppBlast)
- Enhanced Experience for Touch Based Mobile Devices
VMware Horizon Mirage
Ex Wanova product (now part of VMware offer) is the complementary part of View for the physical environments.
Could be an interesting solution for OS migration (also in-place upgrade and now supporting also Windows 8) and hardware refresh. Note also that it used a unified image mangement for physical and virtual desktops.
