Reading Time: 2 minutes Using Veeam Endpoint you learn a lot on how Microsoft VSS works and how you can solve problems when something stop or go wrong. Some months ago I’ve wrote about an issue in file exclusion (see Veeam Endpoint: unable to exclude files from shapshot). One week ago, Veeam Endpoint backup jobs goes in a yellow state again with this message: 05/01/2016 00:32:17 :: Unable to exclude files from snapshot: Shadow Copy Optimization Writer timed out (see Windows event log for more info).

Mostly is finally resolved, but you may still have strange issuesespecially during the upgrade procedure (most when you start from a vSphere 5.1 version). I notice, after an upgrade, also a strange behavior with vMotion where live VM migration fails with this error: A general system error occurred: PBM error occurred during PreMigrateCheckCallback: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Reading Time: 2 minutes If you install PernixData FVP, you will notice some certificates warning prompt when you access to the management interface. The prompt appears because by default there is a certificated delivered with the computer name fvp.pernixdata.com and of course does not match your management server FQDN. Reading Time: 2 minutes Altaro (a company with an interesting backup solution both for VMware and Hyper-V) has recently published a short interview with 9 vExpert on their views on VMware VSAN and Hyper-Convergence solutions. Hyper-Convergence is the concept of putting storage and compute within the same chassis, with the idea that scale-out storage and computing will be much simpler. There are many companies that are starting to delve into this space, such as VMware with VSAN, Nutanix (one of the pioneer of this kind of approach), and now also Microsoft with Storage Spaces Direct.

The first TechEd happened in 1993 in Orlando, Florida and the last took place in Barcelona in 2014. This was also the last big Microsoft event in Europe. Starting from 2015, Microsoft rescheduled its conference schedule and introduced the Microsoft Ignite event. First Ignite was in Spring 2015 in Chicago and the next one is scheduled in Atlanta on September 26–30, 2016.
