Unitrends has announced the release of a new backup solution, targeted for VMware environments, called VM Backup Essentials (vBE) and designed (and priced) for SMB use cases.
The vBE product converges enterprise-grade virtual backup software, ransomware detection, and fully integrated cloud storage options (with WAN acceleration) into a powerful, easy-to-use product that is aggressively priced at $105 per socket per year, with a subscription model, but with a version full options.
It’s an agentless application-aware backup solution designed to provide protection for VMware environments up to 6 sockets (the size of the VMware Essential Plus bundle, typical for SMB environments).
Note that actually vSphere 6.7 it’s not supported, but it will be soon.
The product is quite simple to install and manage with an intuitive user interface:
The solutions it’s based on a virtual appliance, with a deploy and setup wizard to simplify the installation. Not a new approach and not a big surprise considering that Unitrends has the former PHD Virtual Backup technologies.
Also not necessary new possibility to store on a cloud tier as a secondary location. vBE can integrate protection for your VMware workloads in hyperscale clouds such as Google or AWS.
But what is totally unique and interesting is the Ransomware protection, considering that Ransomware threats can evolve faster than security software and IT admins can keep up. Unitrends is using a monitoring solution based on artificial intelligence (AI) and built-in to every backup, to perform predictive analytics automatically monitor data characteristics, flag suspicious files, and alert administrators to threats.
Note also that there is a 30-day free trial available from www.myvmwarebackup.com.
