Again issues with Storage vMotion and backup programs

Reading Time: < 1 minuteRecenltly I’ve got some issue with Storage vMotion due to the “lock” function used by some backup programs. I’ve write about it related with Symantec Backup Exec, but this time was with VMware Data Protector (VDP). Usually, backup programs disable Storage vMotion during the backup process to avoid datastore changes (and issue during the copy, considering that starting from vSphere 5.0 it’s possible use Storage vMotion also on VM with snapshots). But if the backup process fail, some backup programs does not clear this information correctly.

Symantec Backup Exec 2012 with vSphere 5.1

Reading Time: 4 minutesThe current version of Symantec Backup Exec is still not supported with VMware vSphere 5.1, according with the Software Compatibility List (SCL). The full support will be available with the 2012 R2 release and/or with the 2012 SP2 (seems confirmed according with this post, but no official date has been announced yet). The missing support does not mean that does not work, but it’s quite boring because you have a lot of minor issues, some not easy to understand.

VCAP5-DTD study guides

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe VCAP-DTD exam is quite similar, in the format, as the VCAP-DCD one, with lot of questions (115 questions!), composed by multiple choice, drag and drop, scenario questions, along with some “visio” style design questions. The total time for this exam is 195 minutes (with the usual 30 min. extension for non native English Countries) that seems much, but could be not enough considering that some questions (scenarios based and “visio”) will take a lot of time!

My experience with VCAP5-DTD beta

Reading Time: 3 minutesI’ve got the opportunity to take the VCAP5-DTD exam during the beta period (at the beginning of this year). After a really long period (common in the VMware beta exams, but this time more long that usual), on May 16 I’ve received an email with this sentence: Thank you for taking the VCAP-DTD Beta Exam. We are pleased to inform you that you passed! Congratulations! I’ve not receive yet the score report (was sent by snail mail), but does not matter too much… I’ve pass this exam, that wasn’t so easy.
