Reading Time: 4 minutesThe first European edition of Nutanix .NEXT Conference is over… So which news are coming from this event? First that there are enough numbers to make good European conferences, not only in the US… Several vendors already know it (see VMware with VMworld, but also NetApp and HP, to make some examples), but others does not bet on this region (see Citrix or Microsoft). There where a huge number of attendees, more than the expect number from the Nutanix. That’s a good sign for the future.

Reading Time: 3 minutesThis year there will be the first Nutanix .NEXT Conference in Europe (Vienna, 8-10 November), after the US edition in Spring 2016 (that was the second .NEXT US Conference). I’m very excited to attend at this event and I have a lot of expectation from it (see how was the first .NEXT Conference). I’ve been invited (as a NTC) and I’m really curious to learn more about Nutanix products and technologies, their vision, their alliances, …. and of course to see a lot of friends. The agenda seems very interesting and I hope that the […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesNutanix has announced Acropolis Version 4.7 GA on June 28th (announcement details can be found here), but if you plan to use it it’s highly recommend downloading the latest maintenance release of this version, Acropolis Version 4.7.1 and start from it. The new version of the NOS (previous name of the Nutanix Operating System) adds a lot of new and interesting features.

Reading Time: 2 minutesPast week, Nutanix has released the Acropolis File Services (AFS): a web-scale native file serving solution built using the same technology that powers Nutanix Enterprise Clouds. Reading Time: 4 minutesYesterday Nutanix has announced the new list of Nutanix Tech Champions (NTC) 2016. Reading Time: 2 minutesNutanix Community Edition is the free and lighter-weight version of the Nutanix Acropolis (previously know as Nutanix Operating System), which powers the Nutanix Virtual Platform. The Community Edition (CE) is designed for people interested in test driving its main features on their own hardware and infrastructure, but also learn more on Nutanix. Was possible deploy it on a single physical (or also virtual) server or a tree node cluster.

Reading Time: 2 minutesNutanix and Lenovo announced a strategic worldwide partnership and OEM agreement to deliver invisible infrastructure to datacenters around the world. This second OEM partnership with Lenovo (after the one with Dell), will add more customer choices for Nutanix-based hyperconverged solutions on their hardware platform of choice. Lenovo will be delivering Nutanix XCP on their world-class System x server platform.

Reading Time: 3 minutesHistorically, Nutanix was built around iSCSI but then they have add the ability to run NFS as well as other front-end IP based protocols. Starting from version 2.5, NFS/NDFS has become the preferred protocol for the Nutanix cluster. Although the Nutanix Distributed File System (NDFS) is stretched across all nodes and build on the pool of each local storage resource, all I/O for a VM is served by the local CVM. The storage can be presented via iSCSI, NFS or SMB3 (introduced in NOS 3.5) to the hypervisor from the CVM (not only the local, […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesOne of the big announces at the .NEXT Conference, was the introduction of erasure coding across nodes (in RAIN configuration) in Nutanix Operating System (NOS) version 4.1.3 (actually it’s a tech preview). Nutanix Erasure Coding–X (EC-X) is a proprietary, native, patent pending, implementation of Erasure Coding. With EC-X, Nutanix customers are able to increase their usable storage capacity by up to 70%. As written in a previous post, Erasure Coding (EC) is a way to implement data proctection in storage systems instead of using RAID techniques.

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs written in a previous post, in those days I’ve attend at the Nutanix .NEXT Conference where several big announces have been revealed during the keynotes. First to all was a strength demonstration of Nutanix: 963 attendees with 7 no shows, more than 3200 registration for the Community Edition, from 0 to 1100 employees in 5 years, lot of announces in this conference, lot (really a lot) sponsors are great numbers and results.

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs written in a previous post, during this days I’m attending at the Nutanix .NEXT Conference where several big announces have been revealed during the first keynote. Really a lot, that I will need more to fix and digest them. Most of them are listed in the press release. New product, new software, an integrated scale out file server, … make it simple and make it invisible were the main themes for the new infrastructures.
