Reading Time: 2 minutes Nutanix has release the new version Acropolis Base Software, formerly known as Nutanix Operating System (NOS), version 4.5. Acropolis is not only the name of the “native” hypervisor (Acropolis Hypervisor or AHV), but is becoming the name of the entire NOS:

Reading Time: 2 minutes During the first .NEXT Conference, Nutanix has announced its next-generation Xtreme Computing Platform (XCP) and their Acropolis hypervisor (based on KVM). Most important Acropolis Hypervisor was validated for Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program, that mean compatibility and support for all Microsoft workloads that can run in a certified virtual environment! Now Nutanix has announced it is working with Citrix to drive down the costs and infrastructure complexity of deploying new app and desktop virtualization environments. In addition, Citrix is supporting the complete Nutanix Acropolis solution, which is now verified as Citrix Ready.

Reading Time: 3 minutes Historically, Nutanix was built around iSCSI but then they have add the ability to run NFS as well as other front-end IP based protocols. Starting from version 2.5, NFS/NDFS has become the preferred protocol for the Nutanix cluster. Although the Nutanix Distributed File System (NDFS) is stretched across all nodes and build on the pool of each local storage resource, all I/O for a VM is served by the local CVM. The storage can be presented via iSCSI, NFS or SMB3 (introduced in NOS 3.5) to the hypervisor from the CVM (not only the local, […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes One of the big announces at the .NEXT Conference, was the introduction of erasure coding across nodes (in RAIN configuration) in Nutanix Operating System (NOS) version 4.1.3 (actually it’s a tech preview). Nutanix Erasure Coding–X (EC-X) is a proprietary, native, patent pending, implementation of Erasure Coding. With EC-X, Nutanix customers are able to increase their usable storage capacity by up to 70%. As written in a previous post, Erasure Coding (EC) is a way to implement data proctection in storage systems instead of using RAID techniques.

Reading Time: 3 minutes As written in a previous post, in those days I’ve attend at the Nutanix .NEXT Conference where several big announces have been revealed during the keynotes. First to all was a strength demonstration of Nutanix: 963 attendees with 7 no shows, more than 3200 registration for the Community Edition, from 0 to 1100 employees in 5 years, lot of announces in this conference, lot (really a lot) sponsors are great numbers and results.

Reading Time: 3 minutes As written in a previous post, during this days I’m attending at the Nutanix .NEXT Conference where several big announces have been revealed during the first keynote. Really a lot, that I will need more to fix and digest them. Most of them are listed in the press release. New product, new software, an integrated scale out file server, … make it simple and make it invisible were the main themes for the new infrastructures.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Nutanix is a well know hyper-converged company founded in 2009 with the vision of bringing the benefits of web-scale IT to the masses. They have changed the rules of traditional storage (on 2009 mostly SAN based) and become the pioneer of concepts like no-SAN and no-LUNs, hyper-converged and web-scale storage. Recently they have also reach five years of history, were they have made significant progress in their products and solution (and also partnership). And now they are handling their first ever user conference (the .NEXT Conference) at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach in 8-10, June […]

Reading Time: 7 minutes If you know Nutanix, you probably know also the Nutanix Next Community that is the forum and information sharing area for Nutanix customers and partners. But there is also another stuff community related… The Nutanix CE (Community Edition) is a lighter-weight, free version of the Nutanix Operating System (NOS), which powers the Nutanix Virtual Platform. The Community Edition of NOS is designed for people interested in test driving its main features on their own hardware and infrastructure, but also learn more on Nutanix. Community Edition allows you to install single-node, three-node, and four-node clusters! Depending […]

Reading Time: 2 minutes Nutanix announced a cutting edge technology certification, the Nutanix Platform Expert (NPX). This flagship educational program, set to become the most rigorous technical qualification in enterprise computing, creates a new standard in IT certifications and highlights the increasing adoption of multi-hypervisor environments in enterprise datacenters. NPX is a peer-vetted, hypervisor agnostic certification designed for veteran Solution Engineers, Consultants, and Architects. It’s an higher level (or a next level) compared to the Nutanix Platform Professional (NPP).

Reading Time: 2 minutes Nutanix has announced the first group of Nutanix Tech Champions (NTC), a community awards similar to the VMware vExpert, Microsoft MVP, Cisco Champions, EMC Elect, … rewarding members of the community on their efforts in sharing their knowledge and enabling fellow community members. This is an awards program that recognizes Nutanix and web-scale experts for their ongoing and consistent contributions to the community and industry, and provides them with unique opportunities to further expand their knowledge, amplify their brand, and together, help shape the future of web-scale IT.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Nutanix does not need presentation: it’s one the first example of hyper-converged storage architecture and probably one of the most know (for an overview see this post). Dell also does not need any presentation and their storage portfolio has some interesting products, included PowerVault MD (based on NetApp technologies), other PowerVault products, EqualLogic and Compellent solutions. This week Dell announced is new partnership with Nutanix to provide a new series of their converged appliance built on Dell servers and powered by the Nutanix software extending Dell’s SDS portfolio. This is another step for Dell into […]
