Each year is the year of VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)… But it’s really true? Yes and no… VDI is just a part of the End User Computing (EUC) area: can solve several user cases, but not all. Other solutions will still exist and maybe also they are still growing, just because the entire EUC area is growing.

Also although desktop virtualization has become much simpler and more commonplace as virtualization technologies have evolved, it still poses some difficulties that can be a huge stumbling block for many companies. While some of these may be technical, many issues have much more to do with how businesses approach VDI implementation. The key here is to make sure that everyone in the company, from management right down to each employee who will use it, is involved in the process, and understands how and why such a change will impact their work.

During the first VeeamON 2015 general session several announces has been done, with some surprise, considering that also new products have been announces.

Of course the announce of Veeam Backup & Replication v9 (that potentially may change the name in the future, considering that is not doing anymore ONLY backup & replication), with a fanta-movie during the introduction of the general conference. Lot of features, some already well know, other new.

But also two new products: Veeam Managed Backup Portal for Service Providers and Veeam Backup for Linux.

Like in the last VeeamON event, the #vBrownbag TechTalks are returning also this year at VeeamON 2015.

The TechTalks are ten-minute presentations by community members at an industry conference. Most of them (and the original idea of the vBrownBag “unconference” was this) are originated with sessions not being accepted for the main conference catalog. We know we want to learn from the community so we arranged an alternative forum. TechTalks are limited to ten minutes; they deliver the very core of an idea. Keeping presentations short also means we can do a lot of sessions in a day. Most TechTalks use a slide deck, some use a whiteboard and a few brave souls do live demonstrations.

Past year I totally miss the first VeeamON event and was a pity because there were a lot of reasons why attend. But this year, thanks to the Veeam Vanguard program, I will attend at the second edition, from Oct, 26th to 29th, including a special pre-event session for Vanguard people.

I’m really curious to see how is this event (because I think that the VeeamON tour events could be nice, but never comparable to a massive and huge event!).
