Reading Time: 2 minutesVM Explorer is another backup (and replication) tool with native support for virtualized platforms (vSphere and Hyper-V) with a good success in the SMB segment. Initially was build by a Swiss company (Trilead), acquired later by HP(E) and recently acquired by Microfocus. Lot of changes in the name, but not in the substance and with a good development and release cycles. Now Microfocus has released a new VM Explorer release (v7.1) compatible with the latest version of VMware vSphere 6.7.

Founded in 2012, in few years they build an interesting product with several powerful features. After the NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7.4 in April, now there is a new release v7.5 with support for VMware vSphere 6.7 and other improvements and new features:

There is good documentation from VMware with the new site well structured and very clean (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/index.html), as usual, there are a lot of good KB article, some online resources, but no official books.

Reading Time: 3 minutesVeeam Software has finally announced the availability of the new Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV, a “Backup & Replication” version for Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV). In this way Veeam extend the supported (on-prem) hypervisors to the three majors: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix AHV. Considering that also Nutanix it’s multi-hypervisors, the combination of Veeam and Nutanix can give the best. Still there isn’t a native solution for other KVM based hypervisors, but those workloads can be protected with the Veeam Agents.

Reading Time: 3 minutesFinally, after a long beta period, there is the new version of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 with support both for SharePoint and OneDrive (Business). Veeam has introduced Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in November 2016, and it became a great success because it’s simple, light, fast to deploy and the restore process remain quite the same of Veeam Backup & Replication with the powerful granular restore.

Now I can announce a new book project that it’s almost complete and in the final review stage: still based on vSphere 6.5, the book is focused on VCP6.5-DCV exam.

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMware vSphere 6.7 is in GA since April 2018 (see this post) and the know issues are quite limited. Most of the other VMware and 3rd party products have reach the compatibility this this new release. For example, recently, also Veeam Backup & Replication support for vSphere 6.7 with the new 9.5 update 3a patch.
