Finally, after a long beta period, there is the new version of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 with support both for SharePoint and OneDrive (Business).
Veeam has introduced Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in November 2016, and it became a great success because it’s simple, light, fast to deploy and the restore process remain quite the same of Veeam Backup & Replication with the powerful granular restore.
The release version 1.5 in 2017, added automation and scalability improvements. But finally, the new v2 is adding support for Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft OneDrive for Business.
You can evaluate the product for a FREE 3-month license here and enjoy full functionality with no feature limitations and no long-term commitment.
Also v2 marks the release of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Community Edition! This FREE product functionality is identical to the paid version, but with the following limitations:
- Maximum number of Exchange Online users: 10
- Maximum number of OneDrive for Business users: 10 users associated with the same 10 Exchange Online users
- Maximum amount of SharePoint data protected: 1TB
- Best effort support
It’s not formally an agent, because it requires a server to run on it:
- CPU: any modern multi-core x64 processor, 4 cores minimum.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM minimum. Additional RAM and CPU resources improve backup, restore and search
performance. - Disk Space: 500 MB for product installation and additional free space for configuration database (depending
on the number of organizations, jobs and sessions) and product logs. - Only 64-bit version of the following operating systems are supported:
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
• Microsoft Windows 10
• Microsoft Windows 8.x
• Microsoft Windows 7 SP1
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 server can be deployed on the following core editions:
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016 LTSC, 1709
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
To become more scalable there are also proxy roles (like in Veeam Backup & Replication) to distribute the load on different systems and parallelize the operations.
Also, different targets are supported, but usually they are local folder on a backup proxy:
- Direct Attached Storage (DAS) connected to the backup server or proxy, including external USB/eSATA drives and raw device mapping (RDM) volumes.
- Storage Area Network (SAN). Backup server or proxy must be connected to the SAN fabric via hardware or virtual HBA, or software iSCSI initiator.
- SMB 3.0 share (experimental support). Backup server’s or proxy’s computer account must have write permissions to work with the network share.
