As also, as announced some months ago, Dell Software will not be part anymore of this big picture.
Reading Time: 3 minutesThe US edition of VMworld 2016 is finally over (and the location and venue are been announced for next year: August 27 – August 31 still at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Convention Center). But which news are coming from this event?
This year, I’ve not attend at the US edition, but I will go, as usual, at the European one. So I cannot make a detailed report, or at least I can only comment other reports.
The first “news”, is the Dell-EMC fusion and again (like at the last VMworld EU) Michael Dell was present (this time physically) during the event. Nothing will change (at least not so much like with EMC) was the “tantra”, but something of course has change also for VMware. One public move is that Michael Dell joins VMware board of directors as chairman. With this change, Joseph M. Tucci, VMware’s chairman of the board of directors since 2007, as well as John R. Egan who served as a director on the VMware board of directors since 2007, are resigning from the VMware board. Let’s see the future moves.

OpenStack is an framework for providing developers with cloud-style APIs and tools on top of a choice of virtual infrastructure technologies. OpenStack software controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter, managed through a dashboard or via the OpenStack API. OpenStack works with popular enterprise and open source technologies making it ideal for heterogeneous infrastructure.
Reading Time: 2 minutesSo the rumor about the acquisition of PernixData by Nutanix is true and finally confirmed: Nutanix has executed a definitive agreement to acquire PernixData and the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
Nutanix and PernixData share an architectural design philosophy that next-generation datacenter fabrics must keep data and applications close in order to drive the fastest possible performance and to deliver flexible, cost-effective infrastructure scaling. With this common vision, the two companies will develop an advanced data stack to replace traditional storage silos and high-latency networks with newer storage-class memory and advanced interconnects. These planned strategic investments in new server and storage technologies will provide customers with a re-imagined data fabric for a post-flash era of enterprise computing.

A new set of products and tools that provide availability spanning the data center/private cloud and the hybrid cloud, both for managed clouds (service prodivers) or public clouds.
