Reading Time: 3 minutesDell’s networking portfolio was historically made by a Dell PowerConnect series for the switches in the SMB and mid-size target and the PowerConnect-W for the wireless offer. Some years ago there was also a PowerConnect-J series with the (temporally) partnership with Juniper (before the Force10 acquisition). The Dell Force10 was positioned in the top of the networking offer with several products both for the traditional networking approach (core, aggregation and access) and also for the emerging model (leaf-spine). But recently the entire networking family has been re-organized and renamed with new names, a clear positioning […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs written in a previous post, VMware NSX was one of the cool topics during the past VMworld and new version of this products has been announce. User cases are more and more and probably one of most interesting (and natural) usage of Network Virtualization is the micro-segmentation. This can give an immediate advantage in using this technology, and can also give an answer to a common security issue. Today’s security models are focuses on perimeter defense, but continued security breaches show this model is not enough. A deep and more granular approach is needed […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesOf course, in this VMworld 2014 there is space also for NSX with lot of sessions, user cases and related news. Related news maybe are not so big as in the past year (the first official announce of NSX), but anyway there is something interesting. First to all the certification path on Network Virtualization: as written in a previous post, there are already the first (big) group of VCDX-NV. Now the certification page is update also with the blueprint for VCDX-NV and VCP-NV (you can already ask for the authorization for it) and the new […]

Reading Time: 4 minutesI’ve already write about Atlantis ILIO USX in some previous posts (for example look at the one related to Virtualization Field Day 3). Their solution is a in-memory software-defined storage solution that pools existing SAN, NAS and DAS from across the datacenter and then optimizes how server applications and VMs consume this storage. Now Atlantis Computing has announced the new version 2.0 of this product with the promise to enable enterprises to deliver better than flash performance, for half the cost of traditional SAN. With USX they are jumping in the storage world making their […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs happened in the past year (with the Veeam Backup & Replication 7 announces), Veeam is periodically announce new features and concepts about the new 8.0 suite, that will be called Veeam Availability Suite. One of the recent announce is about the end-to-end encryption included in Veeam Backup & Replication v8. Encryption was not so new in Veeam products, considering that was introducted in the Veeam Backup & Replication Cloud Edition, but was only on data stored on the cloud provider.

Reading Time: 2 minutesNutanix does not need presentation: it’s one the first example of hyper-converged storage architecture and probably one of the most know (for an overview see this post). Dell also does not need any presentation and their storage portfolio has some interesting products, included PowerVault MD (based on NetApp technologies), other PowerVault products, EqualLogic and Compellent solutions. This week Dell announced is new partnership with Nutanix to provide a new series of their converged appliance built on Dell servers and powered by the Nutanix software extending Dell’s SDS portfolio. This is another step for Dell into […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesHyper-converged architectures consolidate and manage computing, networking, and storage resources via software so they can run on any vendor’s server hardware. Several years ago they where (apparently) strange approach to storage implementation used mainly for cheap solution (using VSA, that lacks, in much cases, of right scalability), or for special user cases like ROBO or VDI (with solution like NexentaVSA for View). But starting with Nutanix (probably the first real player in those kind of solution) the idea of simple VSA (Virtual Storage Appliance) has dramatically changed by introducing a large scalability with new scale-out (or web-scale, […]
