Reading Time: 4 minutesIn my briefing with Tarmin, during the last Powering the cloud event, was with Joseph Lynn, Director of Marketing at Tarmin. Tarmin is an agile and innovative startup delivering key advanced technologies in big data and information management, leveraging the promise of cloud computing to create a new storage paradigm. They are focusing on providing active archive, Content Addressable Storage (CAS), Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) and intelligent storage software optimised for secondary storage environment.

Reading Time: 4 minutesIn my briefing with Spectra Logic, during the last Powering the cloud event, was with Steve Mackey, Vice President International at Spectra Logic. I’ve met him also last year during the past event so was the opportunity know what has changed in the last months. Compared to other storage companies met during this event, this is one with a long history (over 30 years of experience in storage) and it well known in the US, but honestly not the same in EMEA (or at least not in Italy) and, in fact, one of their mission […]

Reading Time: 6 minutesIn my briefing with Actifio, during the last Powering the cloud event, was with Andrew Gilman (Senior Director of Global Marketing) and Ann Karolin Thueland (Director Marketing EMEA). The company is a so-called storage “start-up”, but it already has its own story (it was founded by Ash Ashutosh in July 2009) and by the way was born in Massachusetts, rather than the “usual” Silicon Valley. Furthermore, compared to many other start-up that are building solutions similar to each other (at least from a conceptual point of view), here the founders have addressed a specific needs […]

Reading Time: 4 minutesIn VMware ESXi the All Paths Down (APD) or Permanent Device Loss (PDL) condition is what occurs on an ESX/ESXi host when a storage device is removed in an uncontrolled manner from the host (or the device fails), and the VMkernel core storage stack does not know how long the loss of device access will last. A typical way of getting into APD would be a Fiber Channel switch failure or (in the case of an iSCSI array) a network connectivity issue. But there are also other scenarios that we will discuss later. VMware vSphere […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesDell EqualLogic is a well know name in iSCSI storage and it does not any presentation. But the “converged” version for the M1000e blade enclosure maybe need more information. I’ve see a prototype (Code name: Colossus) during the Dell Storage Forum at London and it was absolutely interesting and promising. The final product is called Dell EqualLogic PS-M4110 Blade Array and it’s fully compatible with the exiting PowerEdge M1000e enclosures (designed and realized several years ago) with the only requisite to have at least one 10Gbps fabric (and of course have an updated firmware).

Reading Time: 2 minutesRecently I’ve got a strange issue with an Dell EqualLogic environment and I’ve not found any useful info about the related error message: Subsystem: MgmtExec Event ID: 8.3.48 Schedule Replica oraria aborted because the group was too busy processing a max-keep value change to create the operation scheduled for time …

Reading Time: 4 minutesThe exam VCAP5-CID is the design part of the Cloud path and it’s mandatory (with the admin exam) to reach the VCDX-Cloud certification (actually there is already somebody with the double VCDX certifications). Also it could give the VCP-Cloud certification in some cross-path scenarios. I’ve take this exam some week after the VCAP5-CIA (see my related experience) and I suggest this strategies for two reasons: there are some admin related questions (more than one, so if you are really fresh from the CIA exam you will find them easy) and some concepts are really common […]
