Reading Time: 4 minutesThe Microsoft Azure portal is already pretty good, simple, useful and fast… with only few clicks (but of course you can work also with PowerShell) and few minutes you can deploy or configure your services. But, during those day, you can test the preview of a new portal (probably the next one) that is even better compared with the current one. The new portal start with a dashboard (and with custom themes) that was probably a big missing the current one (although you can reach several information from the inventory on the left or on […]

Reading Time: 5 minutesThe next release of Windows family is really close and a technical preview (both for the client and the server OS) is already available for the download. Of course it’s one of the main theme of the TechEd Europe and will be one of the hot topics on the MVP Summit on next week. Of course the new Windows Server (actually named Windows Server 10 on some sites, but probably renamed in Windows Server 2015) has a lot of new features and improvements that are covered on a dedicated TechNet page. Note that this list may be not complete yet… […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesZerto provides enterprise-class business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solutions for virtualized infrastructure and cloud. Zerto Virtual Replication was one of the first hypervisor-based replication and recovery solution for VMware and they have over 700 customers and 150 cloud service providers. Now, at the TechEd Europe event, they are announcing Zerto Virtual Replication for Microsoft Hyper-V.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAccording to Microsoft, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award is given to “exceptional, independent community leaders who share their passion, technical expertise, and real-world knowledge of Microsoft products with others”. The awarded are people who “actively share their … technical expertise with the different technology communities related directly or indirectly to Microsoft”. An MVP is awarded for contributions over the previous year. Is more than an award (or accreditation) instead of certification and is quite similar (in the concept) like other “community” award, like the VMware vExpert.

Reading Time: 5 minutesMicrosoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) is the management tool for virtual environment based on Microsoft Hyper-V (but note that it can also manage XenServer and vSphere infrastructures). It provide also management functionality for other “fabric” components (like storage or network). It’s not mandatory (compared to VMware vCenter that is needed to implement most of the cluster features, you can manage an Hyper-V environment with the Windows MMC snap-in or via PowerShell), but could be useful to manage the entire infrastructure from a single pane. And also it provide some new features, like library […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesGranular restore of application is usually a complex and long task that may require also good knowledge of the application itself. This because most backup programs just restore the application files and then using specific application procedures you can restore specific objects from those recovered files. As written in previous posts, Veeam Backup & Replication has different ways to handle object restores: using Application Item Recovery (AIR) or, for some applications, using a specific Veeam Explorer components. For SQL Server actually there is only the U-AIR option, that is really powerful but require at least […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesHow you probably know is possible run Hyper-V role (or Hyper-V Server) in a VM using latest version of VMware virtualization products (vSphere and Workstation) because they also can “emulate” the hardware instructions (AMD-V or Intel-VT) needed of hypervisors like Microsoft Hyper-V (but also, for example, Citix XenServer). More complicated if you was to run Hyper-V in a nested VM inside Hyper-V (or some other virtualization platform that lacks of this “emulation” feature).
