Actually, in order to gain this certification, you basically need to attend a course and pass the related exam.
I’ve already described the entire process (and the benefit) for the VMCE Certification and also some comments about the VMCE Course. Finally I’ve found a timeslot time for study and some days ago I’ve passed the exam (I’ve still waiting my VMCE number, but at least on VUE site the pass status has been confirmed).
Reading Time: < 1 minuteYou can run the ESXi installer usually from the CD (official or customized), but also from PXE or from USB. The CD installation (still in version 5.5 the ISO fit on a CD) remain the most used option, but in some cases it’s not applicable.
For example recent servers or blade systems lacks of the CD/DVD unit and in this case the only option is use the hardware management interface (like the IOLE for HP or the iDRAC for Dell), or use alternative boot options.
PXE could be valuable in some cases, but require an infrastructure that is not so fast to be deployed. So USB remain the most reasonable option for a quick installation in those cases.

This because most backup programs just restore the application files and then using specific application procedures you can restore specific objects from those recovered files.
As written in previous posts, Veeam Backup & Replication has different ways to handle object restores: using Application Item Recovery (AIR) or, for some applications, using a specific Veeam Explorer components.
For SQL Server actually there is only the U-AIR option, that is really powerful but require at least the Enterprise edition and a virtual lab setup.

Reading Time: 2 minutesSome weeks ago I’ve got an issue in a VMware vSphere 5.1 environment with vMotion that stop each operation at 14% with some strange errors. Also there were several VMware KB articles related to this issues, with different reasons.
The error message was simple: Timed out waiting for migration start request. So the closest KB article was: vMotion fails at 14% with the error: Timed out waiting for migration start request (2068817).
But none of the possible solutions were applicable to my case.
