Reading Time: 2 minutesDi recente, durante il VMworld US 2018, VMware ha celebrato i suoi 20 anni di storia che hanno segnato una rivoluzione nel mondo dell’IT, grazie alla virtualizzazione per ambienti x86. Ma in realtà esiste un’altra soluzione di virtualizzazione su x86 che anch’essa ha tanta storia e che questo mese compie i suoi 15 anni: Xen Project, con il supporto a guest Linux 2.4.22. Nel lontano ottobre 2003, Ian Pratt (il fondatore del Xen Project) annuncia la prima release stabile del Xen virtual machine monitor per x86!

Reading Time: 2 minutesSome days ago I’ve got a strange error during the backup job of a vSphere 6.7 (not Update 1) environment with latest version of Veeam Backup & Replication. The job was starting correctly, VMs have been discoverted, but when the backup start to copy the VMDK the job failed with a “VDDK async operation error 14009” message.

Però c’è una funzionalità che in realtà è passata abbastanza inosservata. In realtà non è tanto una funzionalità ma una particolare compatibilità:finalmente VMware vSphere 6.7U1 supporta Active Directory 2016. In molti si dimenticano che le diverse componenti di vCenter Server, vCenter Single Sign-On (SSO) e VMware Platform Services Controller (PSC) hanno una particolare matrice di compatibilità con Active Directory, in particolare con i relativi livelli di funzionalità.
