StorMagic has just announced the version 2.0 of its SvHCI full-stack HCI (hyperconverged infrastructure) solution, which is purpose-built for enterprise edge and small to medium-sized business (SMB) environments. First version 1.0 was just released 6 month ago, in June 2024.
The key new features in SvHCI 2.0 include:
- VM Snapshots: ability to take snapshots of all VMs, roll-back software updates and point-in-time records, enabling advanced data protection
Manual snapshot of HA and non-HA protected VMs (note that HA snapshots are available on both servers)
Create a point-in-time record of VM disk contents with CPU, RAM, and NIC configurations
Supports up to 16 snapshots per VM - Edge Control Monitoring and Management: enterprise-scale fleet management capability that provides centralised, cloud-based access to all SvHCI systems, and allows users to control hundreds or thousands of remote edge sites
Compatible with multiple hypervisors (SvHCI, vSphere, Hyper-V, and KVM) - VM Import: to can quickly, reliably and affordably migrate VMware VMs to StorMagic SvHCI, while significantly reducing time to production
Accessible directly from the SvHCI interface for user-friendly operation - Expanded Virtual NIC Support: configure up to 4 virtual NICs per VM, using any mix of adapters, for flexible, advanced network setups
- Increased Virtual Disk Capacity: support for up to 4 virtual disks per VM on either Virtio or PV-SCSI controllers, enabling more robust storage configurations
- Enhanced VM per host density: SvHCI now supports up to 50 HA protected VMs per cluster, maximizing resource use and scalability
- Metro-Distance Stretched Clusters: deploy high-availability 2-node clusters across separate geographic locations, enabling resilience across a building, campus, or city
- Support for Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) embedded storage controller
“Thanks to the market disruption caused by Broadcom, the demand for alternative hypervisors is booming,” said Bruce Kornfeld, chief product officer, StorMagic. “SvHCI 2.0 introduces new capabilities that make it even easier for customers to manage their HCI infrastructure and keep applications running, all at the lowest possible cost.”
Pricing and Availability
SvHCI 2.0 will be generally available for purchase in the next 90 days. Pricing begins at $2,049 for a one-year subscription for a single server and up to 2 TB of storage. Also launching today is the SvHCI Global Beta Program for VM Snapshots, where customers and partners can get early access to the software and test on their own servers.
