Reading Time: 3 minutesDellEMC PowerStore is the new product line that will replace the old Equallogic/SC/VNX/Unity series. It’s a nice product with a mix of the features of all those prevuious products and a new modern design both in the hardware and the software parts. From VMware vSphere point of view it can be access as a block level storage with iSCSI and/or FC protocols, but it has also a native vVols implementation and, for example, in the PowerStoreX model it’s the default way to access at the storage resources.

Reading Time: 4 minutesTrusted platform module (TPM) is a hardware, designed to securely store information such as crendential or measurements. TPM 2.0 is supported on all 13 th generation and 14 th generation Dell EMC PowerEdge servers including the latest AMD servers. Note that is not enabled by default. TPM 2.0 is enabled and supported with VMware vSphere 6.7 releases. ESXi 6.7 introduced the “Host Attestation” feature using which the validation of boot process can be reported to vCenter dashboard.

Reading Time: 4 minutesIf you have tried to apply the VMware vSphere 6.7 Update 3 patch on a DellEMC PowerEdge server, you may have some kind of performance issues. The vCenter become very slow and some basic operations, including vMotion are very very slow (also more than 100 times!).

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Dell Compellent storage is an interesting solution and, before the EMC acquisition, was the main storage product in Dell portfolio. Veeam Backup and Replication offers different type of primary storage integration to improve and offload the backup process using storage snapshots (and limiting VMware snapshots only for the time needed to take a storage snapshot).

Reading Time: 5 minutesThe Dell Boot Optimized Storage Solution (BOSS) is a new option for the installation of the hypervisor part, in a virtualization enviroment, or more important in a hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) host! The dual SD option was already present in all PowerEdge, also in previous generations, and was a good choice to separate the hypervisor from the disks or simple use diskless based solutions. And was a good option for vSphere ESXi when servers were only used as a compute nodes.

Reading Time: 5 minutesDuring the last Dell Technologies World 2019 event one of the interesting topics was the idea of (real) composable infrastructure. DellEMC already have the Dell EMC PowerEdge MX platform, but at this stage is more like a converged infrastructure 2.0, insteat that a true composable infrastructure. In fact DellEMC define the MX7000 a kinetic infrastructure, but during the event there was an interesting prototype to demostrate that can become a composable infrastructure.

Reading Time: 5 minutesThe Dell Technologies World 2019 event is finished and it’s time to make a recap of what’s happened. You can start watching the three general sessions, available online with also a full transcript. There are some really important informations not only about the products, but also about the vision. Also there are different interviews available to learn more.
