To implement some encryption solutions (like VM encryption, backup encryption, storage encryption) you need to manage symmetric keys in a secure way.

Key management has always been solved with proprietary solutions. Each vendor have offered in the past their own key management server/client combination, but as the complexity of datacenters increased, this designed has shown its limits. If you have multiple components, all in need of security keys, why you would need to run multiple key management solutions?

But in order to have a common solution, you first would need a protocol to let all the different components and vendor talk to each other, and this is what KMIP is about.

Rob is still supporting the program as part of the Dell team. Dell is committed to keeping RVTools available as a no cost public download, so it can continue to be an open asset for the technical community.

RVTools has been a widely used utility for VMware environments for the past 15 years, helping users make accurate decisions around planning, deploying, and managing virtual infrastructures.

Veeam announced two new offerings which combine the confidence and reliability of Veeam’s backup and restore capabilities with the ease-of-use of Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS).

The news is that those two offers are not delivered through cloud partners, but directly as a Veeam’s portfolio service called Cirrus by Veeam.

Cirrus by Veeam was acquired from CT4, an Australian company who developed the cloud-native service utilizing Veeam’s industry-leading data backup and ransomware recovery platform.
