Reading Time: 2 minutesThe free edition of VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) is no longer available on the VMware website. Note: on April 2025 the free version is back again! As explained in KB 2107518, on February 16th 2024, VMware announces the End Of General Availability of the Free vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi 7.x and 8.x). As part of the transition of perpetual licensing to new subscription offerings, the VMware vSphere Hypervisor (Free Edition) has been marked as EOGA (End of General Availability).

Reading Time: 3 minutesUno dei requisiti per utilizzare la replica Veeam basata su CDP (Continous Data Protection, o near synchronous) è quello di installare gli I/O filter su ogni ESXi dei cluster che si vogliono proteggere e su ogni ESXi del cluster di destinazione. I filtri I/O utilizzati da Veeam CDP sono di fatto dei VAIO plugin aggiunti tramite pacchetti VIB di ESXi (notare che ad oggi questa soluzione supporta solo ambienti VMware vSphere).

Reading Time: 4 minutesA VM snapshot preserves the state and data of the VM at a specific point in time (the snapshot creation time). The data includes all the files that make up the VM. This includes disks, memory (if the VM is powered on and you enable also memory snapshot), and other devices, such as virtual network interface cards. A VM provides several operations for creating and managing snapshots and snapshot chains. These operations let you create snapshots, revert to any snapshot in the chain, and remove snapshots. You can create extensive snapshot trees.

Installare ESXi 7.0 su VMware Workstation

Reading Time: 3 minutesMolti utilizzano come laboratorio ambienti nestested, spesso basati su VMware Workstation/Player/Fusion dato che queste soluzioni di virtualizzazione sono perfettamente in grado di virtualizzare anche hypervisor di tipo 1 (baremetal) come ESXi, ma anche Hyper-V, Xen e KVM. Se però avete già provato ad installare VMware ESXi 7.0 all’interno di una VM su VMware Workstation vi sarete accorti che non è possibile (lo stesso problema c’è con Fusion e Player). L’installer di ESXi 7.0 parte correttamente, ma si ferma subito a questo punto:
