Reading Time: 2 minutesDDN is a company that, in more  than 20 years (was founded in 1998), has designed, developed, deployed and optimized systems, software and solutions which enable enterprises, service providers, universities and government agencies to generate more value and accelerate time to insight from their data and information, on premise and in the cloud. It’s one the the leader in the HPC market (2/3 of the top 500 supercomputers run on DDN), the largest private storage company in world, with double digit growth, still profitable and self funded. During the last years DDN has enlarge its focus on […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesSpectra Logic introduced a new product: StorCycle™ is a new storage management software solution designed for data-driven organisations that need a modern storage lifecycle management workflow. StorCycle allows organisations to create a new Perpetual Tier of storage, reducing the overall cost of storing data by up to 70 percent, while giving users full access to their data.

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Dell Compellent storage is an interesting solution and, before the EMC acquisition, was the main storage product in Dell portfolio. Veeam Backup and Replication offers different type of primary storage integration to improve and offload the backup process using storage snapshots (and limiting VMware snapshots only for the time needed to take a storage snapshot).

Reading Time: 5 minutesVMware vSAN 6.7U3 it’s out and maybe you would like to upgrade your environment. But note that there are some possible performance issue with vSphere 6.7U3 on Dell servers. In my opinion, one reason to upgrade is to finally have the automatical proactive rebalancing feature. You can automate all rebalancing activities with cluster-wide configuration and threshold settings. Prior to this release, proactive rebalancing was manually initiated after being alerted by vSAN health checks.

Reading Time: 2 minutesStarWind Virtual SAN eliminates any need in physical shared storage by simply mirroring internal hard disks and flash between hypervisor servers. Its solution use a hyperconverged approach to maintains high performance and data high availability on minimalistic resources (it’s build around a two nodes architecture).

Reading Time: 3 minutesExcelero and ThinkParQ announced that their joint go-to-market relationship is bearing fruit and the firms have successfully integrated Excelero’s NVMesh software-defined block storage solution for shared NVMe at local latency along with ThinkParQ’s leading parallel cluster file system BeeGFS. Excelero NVMesh enables shared NVMe across any network and supports any local or distributed file system. Customers benefit from the performance of local flash with the convenience of centralized storage while avoiding proprietary hardware lock-in and reducing the overall storage TCO.

Reading Time: 5 minutesThe Dell Boot Optimized Storage Solution (BOSS) is a new option for the installation of the hypervisor part, in a virtualization enviroment, or more important in a hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) host! The dual SD option was already present in all PowerEdge, also in previous generations, and was a good choice to separate the hypervisor from the disks or simple use diskless based solutions. And was a good option for vSphere ESXi when servers were only used as a compute nodes.
