Issue with vMotion: PBM error during pre-check

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMware vSphere 6.0 has got some issues, like the several related to CBT and data protection, during the first years of its life. Mostly is finally resolved, but you may still have strange issuesespecially during the upgrade procedure (most when you start from a vSphere 5.1 version). I notice, after an upgrade, also a strange behavior with vMotion where live VM migration fails with this error: A general system error occurred: PBM error occurred during PreMigrateCheckCallback: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Reading Time: 3 minutesCome probabilmente saprete, VMware vSphere 6.0 ha un grave problema nella gestione del Change Block Tracking (CBT) che può portare alla corruzione di qualunque backup incrementale se svolto utilizzato le API di VMware (come fatto tutti i programmi di backup “nativi” per il mondo VMware). Il 25 novembre è stata rilasciata una patch (come descritto anche in questo post) per risolvere questo problema. La patch è la ESXi600-201511401-BG e l’articolo è il KB 2137546.

Grave problema al CBT di VMware vSphere 6

Reading Time: 3 minutesChanged Block Tracking (CBT) è una funzionalità introdotta in VMware vSphere 4.0 per permettere l’impementazione di backup incrementali nativi lato sorgente. VMware VDAP espone questa funzionalità (insieme a tutte le altre per i backup agentless) e di conseguenza tutti i programmi di backup nativi per VMware la utilizzato. Il problema è che settimana scorsa è stato individuato un bug molto critico che rende i dati del CBT non più attendibili! E questo riguarda tutte le versioni di vSphere 6 (inclusa l’ultima Update 1a).

Reading Time: 3 minutesL’anno scorso purtroppo non sono riuscito a partecipare al primo VeeamON ed è stato un peccato visto che sembra essere stato un grande evento, con molte ragioni per partecipare. Ma quest’anno, anche grazie al programma Veeam Vanguard, potrò seguire dal vivo la seconda edizione, che si svolgerà da 26 al 29 ottobre 2015, con il lunedì pre-evento dedicato a sessioni specifiche per il team Vanguard. Sono decisamente cusioso di vedere com’è questo evento, anche perché i  vari VeeamON tour (benché fatti bene e itineranti) non possono dare l’idea di come può essere un così grande […]

EMC and VMware combine their cloud services

Reading Time: < 1 minuteVMware and EMC took an important step forward in their cloud strategies by announcing plans to combine a critical mass of managed services assets from EMC II, and public cloud services from VMware vCloud Air under the Virtustream brand. Virtustream was acquired by EMC earlier this year, and is the leader in hosting mission-critical applications, such as SAP, in the cloud.
