Veeam Backup & Replication 12

On Febrary 14th, Veeam has announced the availability of Veeam Backup & Replication 12. For more information see the release notes document.

The release version of Veeam Backup & Replication 12 is available for download at starting from February 14, 2023. Veeam Backup & Replication Version 11 became End of Fix in February 2023 and will go End of Support in February 2024.

With the new version 12 of Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Data Platform, Veeam expands its product range with more cloud features, flexibility and innovations to Veeam’s environment.

Oggi dipendiamo sempre di più dalla tecnologia digitale e i dati detengono ormai il potenziale di costruire le imprese, ma anche di distruggerle. Questa crescente dipendenza è indicativa di come un bene così prezioso per le imprese, il patrimonio di dati personali sensibili o identificabili, si stia spostando online. Per i cybercriminali, quindi, si è aperta una vera e propria corsa all’oro, per cui non sorprende se gli attacchi informatici sono in continuo aumento: l’anno scorso in Italia si sono registrati 12.947 attacchi verso istituzioni, imprese e privati, il 138% in più rispetto al 2021 e un aumento delle frodi informatiche del 9%, con un costo complessivo di oltre 38 milioni di euro.

VAMI backup fails with generic error

The possibility to backup VCSA using VAMI at file level is very powerfull and could be a good “plan-B” in case the backup at image level is not restorable (it happens in case of file/DB corruptions).

But, of course, is not perfect and still in latest version there are some issues, like the VAMI backup retention issue.

But can also happen that backup fails with no specific errors.

Microsoft acquires Fungible

In December 2022, reports suggested that Microsoft had acquired Fungible for around $190 million. Fungible is a startup in the Data Processing Unit (DPU) market, launched in 2016 by Bertrand Serlet, a former Apple software engineer who sold a cloud storage startup, Upthere, to Western Digital in 2017, alongside Krishna Yarlagadda and Juniper Networks co-founder Pradeep Sindhu.

On January 9, 2023, Microsoft confirmed the acquisition but not the purchase price and Fungible’s team will join Microsoft’s data center infrastructure engineering teams, which will focus on DPU services for storage and networking.
