VeeamON: Why attend

Has written in a previous post, Veeam has announced their first big multi-day event: VeeamOn 2014. An important milestone for a company that was founded in 2006 and now one of biggest in its field (and still a good example on how the virtualization ecosystem can grow using also the ecosystem itself).

VeeamON will be a big event (and potentially one of the “biggest”) not only about Veeam and their products, but on the entire availability and data protection area. The agenda is not yet available, but the contents are quite interesting and, of course, most related to the new products release.

Third year of vInfrastructure blog

Just three years ago this blog has started its life (see the first official post: Blog goes live), initially with a different domain name, but fastly changed with the final one (shorted and probably simpler).

Compared to the first year (see the related post: One year of blog) and also the previous one (see the related post: Another year of blog), the blog has grow, expecially in the number of visitors (and recurring visitors) and in its popularity (for example see this ADV classification of some blogs).

It remain one of most popular virtualization related blogs (in the 2012, in the 2013, and also in the 2014) and still remain in a dual languages version: Italian and English.

NSX certification path

VMware certifications path is a three level model: starting from VCP, VCAP to the top level VCDX certification. Plus an initial, but not relevant in the certification step (to increase your level) Associated level (VCA). And this for each technology area: datacenter, cloud and end user computing and soon the networking path.

Now there some new information about the network virtualization path, related to the VMware NSX product.

Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award

According to Microsoft, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award is given to “exceptional, independent community leaders who share their passion, technical expertise, and real-world knowledge of Microsoft products with others”.

The awarded are people who “actively share their … technical expertise with the different technology communities related directly or indirectly to Microsoft”. An MVP is awarded for contributions over the previous year.

Is more than an award (or accreditation) instead of certification and is quite similar (in the concept) like other “community” award, like the VMware vExpert.

Veeam Availability Suite adds encryption functions

As happened in the past year (with the Veeam Backup & Replication 7 announces), Veeam is periodically announce new features and concepts about the new 8.0 suite, that will be called Veeam Availability Suite.

One of the recent announce is about the end-to-end encryption included in Veeam Backup & Replication v8. Encryption was not so new in Veeam products, considering that was introducted in the Veeam Backup & Replication Cloud Edition, but was only on data stored on the cloud provider.

Dell & Nutanix Alliance

Nutanix does not need presentation: it’s one the first example of hyper-converged storage architecture and probably one of the most know (for an overview see this post).

Dell also does not need any presentation and their storage portfolio has some interesting products, included PowerVault MD (based on NetApp technologies), other PowerVault products, EqualLogic and Compellent solutions.

This week Dell announced is new partnership with Nutanix to provide a new series of their converged appliance built on Dell servers and powered by the Nutanix software extending Dell’s SDS portfolio. This is another step for Dell into the hyper-converged solutions for the web-scale market (there were already other OEM partnership).
