Nei giorni scorsi è stata individurata una possibile incompatibilità tra Veeam Endpoint Backup 1.1.x e l’aggiornamento Threshold 2 (o Fall Upgrade) di Windows 10.

Benché Veeam supporti Windows 10 già dalla versione 1.1 di Endpoint Backup, a seguito dell’aggiormento di Windows, il file di database di Endpoint potrebbe essere spostato da C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile a C:\Windows.old\windows\System32\config\systemprofile e il programma non funzionare più.

Non è ancora chiaro quando si verifichi il problema e se impatta solo i sistemi Windows precedentemente aggiornati a Windows 10 (Windows.old è utilizzata come roll-back per tornare ad una versione precedente di Windows).

Nel caso compaia il problema, dopo l’aggiornamento di Microsoft Windows 10, si riceverà un messaggio di errore di questo tipo “Services suddenly stopped working” all’interno del Veeam Endpoint Backup Control Panel.

Attualmente non esiste ancora una patch ufficiale, ma la soluzione è semplice, ma va applicata entro i 3 giorni dall’aggiornamento (probabilmente dopo i 3 giorni la directory Windows.old viene automaticamente cancellata).

1. Go to Control panel > Administrative Tools and run Services. Stop the Veeam Endpoint Backup service.

2. Run regedit.exe and locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup key. Create the following value under this key:

Name = Recreatedatabase
Type = DWORD
Value = 1 

3. Start Veeam Endpoint Backup service

4. Allow some time for the new database instance to be created (5 minutes should be enough).

5. Stop Veeam Endpoint Backup service

6. Run regedit.exe and delete the Recreatedatabase value from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup key.

7. Move VeeamBackup.mdf and VeeamBackup_log.ldf replacing the existing files in the target folder

From:    C:\Windows.old\windows\System32\config\systemprofile
To:        C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile

8. Start Veeam Endpoint Backup service.
