Dell Storage portfolio has grown in those years, also from some acquisitions (EqualLogic and Compellent) and some partnership (like the recent one with Nutanix for the XC Series) becoming more complete and spread.

Actually there are three main lines in the “traditional” storage world that include: MD3 series (based on NetApp technologies), PS series (based on EqualLogic) and SC series (based on Compellent). And new solutions for the hyper-converged world, including the XC series and VMware EVO:RAIL appliances (but also other partnership, like the one with Nexenta or RedHat).

As most of you probably can remember, FastSCP was the first (free) product from Veeam, the pilar for the commercial backup product. Now FastSCP for VMware does not exist, because it’s simple part of the freee version of Veeam Backup & Replication (called also VeeamZIP).

But now FastSCP reborn again with a new purpose: Veeam FastSCP for Microsoft Azure.

Atlantis USX (Unified Software-defined Storage) is a software-defined storage solution (100% software) that delivers the performance of an all-flash storage array at half the cost of traditional SAN or NAS.

First version was announced more than one year ago (February 2014) and actually there is the version 2.0 (announced on August 2014) with several interesting features.

I’m really honored to have been invited to as a delegate at the first edition of Data Field Day (#DFD1) event, scheduled in May 13–15, 2015 in California (Silicon Valley).

Like others Technical Field Day events, Data Field Day is organized by Stephen Foskett and his team, with the purpose of bring together innovative IT product vendors and independent thought leaders to share information and opinions in a presentation and discussion format.

Data Field Day event will cover different topics: from big data to analytics to hyperscale architecture and cloud security, and all waves of innovations that are transforming the IT. A new format for some growing trends, including micro-services, mobile and the Internet-connected world.

Also some months after the release the new vSphere 6.0, one of the main reason to don’t use in a production environment remain the compatibility aspect. If most of the VMware products it’s fine from this point, it isn’t the same for the 3rd part backup products.

One month ago I’ve wrote a post Backup products and vSphere 6.0 compatibility were only few products were available. Now there are some changes in this list.

Dell announced an expansion of its 13th generation PowerEdge servers, in the top line adding new four-socket servers to its portfolio.

The new servers are: PowerEdge R930 (rack server), PowerEdge FC830 (for the FX converged platform), PowerEdge M830 (for the M1000e modular system) and PowerEdge M830P (for the VRTX converged system).

The Dell’s servers porfolio also included several other solutions, for those are all the four-socket configuration for the new latest generation of products line.
