Reading Time: 4 minutesVembu is a player in the backup and data protection world, maybe not (yet) well-know, but for sure not new at all and with a complete suite that covers the physical world, the virtual (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V) and also some public cloud SaaS solutions. One of their product is the Vembu Backup&DR (BDR) Suite that helps you to backup the virtual and physical machines and aids your business continuity, having VMware, Hyper-V, Physical Windows Servers, Workstations, Linux, and Mac with RTO & RPO<15 minutes and minimal administration effort.

Problemi di compatibilità tra Veeam Backup & Replication e vSphere 6.7 Update 1

Reading Time: 2 minutesA quanto pare la nuova versione VMware vSphere 6.7 Update 1 ha qualche problema di compatibilità con Veeam Backup & Replication rendendo i backup job non più funzionanti! Come riportato nella Veeam KB 2443, VMware 6.7 Update 1 al momento NON è supportato da Veeam B&R, lo sarà con l’uscita di Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4 (anche se non c’è alcuna data di rilascio certa). Maggiori informazioni sul problema sono disponibili nella Veeam KB 2784 e in un forum thread.

Reading Time: 3 minutesDopo alcuni mesi dall’annuncio delle nuove funzionalità, finalmente VMware vSphere 6.7 Update 1 è disponibile per il download, come pure la nuova versione di VMware vSAN 6.7 Update 1 (che in realtà è basata su vSphere). Questo vuol anche dire una nuova versione del client HTML5, che per la prima volta diventa fully featured, ossia con tutte le funzioni (e qualcosa di più) del client Flash (come come ben sappiamo è destinato a sparire presto). Spinning disks stats from Backblaze blog

Reading Time: 2 minutesEach quarter, Backblaze realize an “hard disk stat” blog post with detailed information on (spinning) hard disk durability. Those reviews look at the quarterly and lifetime statistics for the data drive models in operation in Backblaze’s data centers. As of September 30, 2018 Backblaze had 99,636 spinning hard drives. Of that number, there were 1,866 boot drives and 97,770 data drives. A lot to have some interesting data.

Violin Systems is acquiring X-IO Storage

Reading Time: 3 minutesViolin Systems has announced it has signed a Letter of Intent with X-IO Technologies to acquire X-IO Storage, the division of X-IO Technologies that developed the popular Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) flash and hybrid storage array product lines. Financial terms were not disclosed but the transaction is executed to be completed within 30 days. This announce cames after few days the announce of the new Violing product XVS 8, confirming that the company is not only reborn, but is tring to get also back to the storage market.

Possible issue using Veeam Instant VM Recovery and vSphere Storage vMotion

Reading Time: 3 minutesIn the last Veeam Community Forums Digest, there are some interesting notes about some possible issues with vSphere Storage vMotion, that usually is used to move backup your VMs in the original datastore during a Instant VM Recovery (IR). Seems that there is major bug in Storage VMotion functionality of vSphere 6.7 when you are using the optional IR feature that allows you to redirect virtual disk updates to the selected datastore.

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMware PowerCLI 10.0.0 was new release of PowerCLI and the first to become multi-platform: it adds support for Mac OS and Linux! Thanks to Microsoft PowerShell Core 6.0, the open-sourced version of PowerShell that’s available on a number of operating systems, from Windows to Linux to Mac OS. From this release (in January 2018) there was a new minor release every month to make sure we get the latest features, performance improvements, and updates available as quickly as possible. But now there is a new major release: PowerCLI 11.0.0!
