Veeam ha introdotto Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 nel “lontano” Novembre 2016 e grazie a questo prodotto è stato possibile proteggere le email di Office 365, ma soprattutto i lasciare la libertà e semplicità per il restore, con strumenti del tutto simili a quelli di Veeam Backup & Replication (in realtà gli stessi per il restore granulare).

La versione 2.0 del luglio 2018 è stata un grande passo in avanti, con l’aggiunta del supporto nativo di SharePoint e OneDrive (Business).

La version 3.0 (aprile 2019) ha stabilizzare le funzionalità e reso il prodotto più veloce e performante, quindi non aveva introdotto grandi novità.

Ma con Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v4.0 ci sono interessanti novità soprattutto per il supporto nativo degli object storage.

Qualunque object storage che soddisfi i requisiti del programma Veeam Ready Object è supportato.

Il backup può essere salvato su uno di questi target:

• Cartelle locali di un backup proxy.
• Storage Direct Attached Storage (DAS) collegato al management server o al backup proxy, inclusi dischi esterni USB/eSATA o raw device mapping (RDM).
• Storage Area Network (SAN) collegati al management server o al backup proxy.
• SMB 3.0 share (experimental support)
• Amazon S3 object storage (new)
• Microsoft Azure Blob storage (new)
• IBM Cloud Object Storage (new)
• S3 compatible object storage systems, including Cloudian, MinIO, SwiftStack Storage and Wasabi S3 (new)

Il repository usato per il backup sarà esteso con l’object storage specifico e i backup saranno scaricati direttamente sull’oggetto di archiviazione!

Vi saranno due parti (quando si utilizzano gli object storage):

• Local folder, which contains metadata (JET DB)
• Object storage, which contains the metadata and backups

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v4.0 può essere installato su uno di questi sistemi a 64 bit:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2019
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
• Microsoft Windows 10
• Microsoft Windows 8.x
• Microsoft Windows 7 SP1

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 supporta anche l’installazione su Windows Server in modalità core, per le seguenti versioni:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2019
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016 LTSC, 1709
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

Notare che Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 non esegue solo il backup della mail su Microsoft Office 365 Exchange Online, ma può anche essere usato per backup on-prem di Microsoft Exchange 2019, 2016 or 2013.

Allo stesso modo non esegue solo il backup di Microsoft Office 365 SharePoint Online ma anche di Microsoft SharePoint 2019 or 2016.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 4.0 è disponibile per il download su: https://www.veeam.com/backup-microsoft-office-365-download.html a partire da 26 novembre 2019.

Per l’aggiornamento sono supportate le seguenti versioni di partenza:

• Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 2.0 (product builds 2.0.0.567, 2.0.0.594 and 2.0.0.814).
• Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 3.0 (product builds 3.0.0.422).

Per aggiornare (o installare) Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365, seguire le seguenti guide:

In caso di aggiornamento vi saranno poi da aggiornare anche tutte le componenti indicate come “outdated”.
