Reading Time: 6 minutesMeltdown and Spectre are critical vulnerabilities existing in several modern CPU: these hardware bugs allow programs to steal data which is currently processed on the computer. Meltdown and Spectre can affect personal computers, mobile devices, server and several cloud services. Actually, the only way to minimize those security risks is to patch your operating systems, but also the hypervisor level and the hardware level (if vendors provide a new firmware).

Reading Time: 6 minutesMeltdown e Spectre sono delle vulnerabilità alquanto serie che affliggono la maggior parte dei processori esistenti sul mercato, rendendo quindi potenzialmente attaccabili sistemi come personal computer, server, dispositivi mobile, ma anche molti servizi di tipo cloud. Al momento, l’unico modo per minimizzare l’effeto di questi problemi è aggiornare sia i sistemi operativi che gli eventuali hypervisor. In realtà stanno arrivando anche i primi microcode (aggiornamenti del firmware delle CPU) da parte di alcuni hardware vendor.

Reading Time: 3 minutesNow that the PSOD on vSphere 6.5 and 10 Gbps NICs issue is finally solved seems that vSphere 6.5 critical bugs are closed, but it’s not totally true. During an upgrade from a vSphere 6.0, I’ve found a really strange iSCSI storage issues where all the VMs on the iSCSI datastore were so slow to become un-usable. First I was thinking about drivers or firmware, in the hosts and in the NIC (1 Gbps) or the firmware on the storage.

Reading Time: 6 minutesCome scritto in un post precedente, alcuni mesi fa, ho iniziato un progetto (che da lungo tempo stentava a partire) di realizzazione di un libro su VMware vSphere. Il lavoro è stato completato e finalmente è disponibile al pubblico. Il libro Mastering VMware vSphere 6.5 è in vendita da una settimana sul sito Packt e anche su Amazon (benché in alcuni siti localizzati la descrizione del libro sia totalmente errata).
