Reading Time: 3 minutesIf you still are using the Windows based vCenter Server with a SQL Server database you may have some login issues, due to a recent Windows update (released on July 10, 2018). You will have some errors in the SQL Server part with SQL startup issues due to “TCP port is already in use” errors. This is caused by a regression in the TCP/IP functions that manages the TCP port pool introduced in the July 10, 2018 Windows updates for Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 and Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2.

Microfocus VM Explorer with vSphere 6.7 support

Reading Time: 2 minutesVM Explorer is another backup (and replication) tool with native support for virtualized platforms (vSphere and Hyper-V) with a good success in the SMB segment. Initially was build by a Swiss company (Trilead), acquired later by HP(E) and recently acquired by Microfocus. Lot of changes in the name, but not in the substance and with a good development and release cycles. Now Microfocus has released a new VM Explorer release (v7.1) compatible with the latest version of VMware vSphere 6.7.

Reading Time: 3 minutesNAKIVO è un’azienda americana (anche se ha origini russe) che nel corso degli anni (è stata fondata nel 2012) ha sviluppato un’interessante soluzione di backup per ambienti VMWare vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, e anche per alcuni ambienti cloud. Dopo aver rilasciato NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7.4 in Aprile 2018, ora hanno rilasciato la nuova release v7.5 che aggiunge il supporto ufficiale a VMware vSphere 6.7, come pure aggiunge nuove funzionalità. There is good documentation from VMware with the new site well structured and very clean (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/index.html), as usual, there are a lot of good KB article, some online resources, but no official books.

Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV

Reading Time: 3 minutesVeeam ha finalmente annunciato la disponibilità di un prodotto nuovo atteso da più di un anno: Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV, una soluzione di “Backup & Replication” per la piattaforma di virtualizzazione Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV). In questo modo Veeam espande l’elenco delle piattaforme di virtualizzazione (on-prem) supportate: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V e Nutanix AHV. Di fatto le tre principali e se consideriamo il fatto che Nutanix supporta tutte e tre (più XenServer) e chiaro che l’accoppiata dei due prodotti può essere vincente e di ampio spetro.

Nuova versione di Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365

Reading Time: 3 minutesDopo un lungo periodo di attesa, finalmente la nuova versione di Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 con i tanto annunciati (e attesi) supporti per SharePoint e OneDrive (Business). La prima versione di Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 risale a novembre 2016 e ha permesso di proteggere le email di Office 365, ma soprattutto i lasciare la libertà e semplicità per il restore, con strumenti del tutto simili a quelli di Veeam Backup & Replication (in realtà gli stessi per il restore granulare).
