Reading Time: 3 minutesRVTools is a Windows .NET application, easy to be install which uses the VI API to collect and display informations about your vSphere virtual environments. RVTools supports ESX Server 3.5, VirtualCenter 2.5, ESX Server 3i, ESX Server 4i, VirtualCenter 4.x, ESX 4.x, VirtualCenter 5.0, VirtualCenter Appliance, ESX 5.0, VirtualCenter 5.5, ESX 5.5, VirtualCenter 6.0, ESX 6.0, VirtualCenter 6.5 and ESX 6.5, so all you can have (also legacy versions) in a datacenter. And it’s totally free. After 10 months from the last version, now it’s available the new Version 3.10 (February, 2018).

VMware vCenter 6.5U1f per Meltdown e Spectre

Reading Time: 3 minutesVMware la rilasciato (ancora il 15 febbraio) una nuova versione della vCSA version: vCenter Server 6.5 U1f, che porta il build number a 7801515. In questa nuova versione della vCSA viene aggiornato il Photon contro due delle vulnerabilità relative alle problematiche Meltdown e Spectre. La nuova patch vCenter Server 6.5 U1f risolve le problematiche bounds-check bypass(Spectre-1, CVE-2017-5753) e rogue data cache load (Meltdown, CVE-2017-5754). Per la vulnerabilità branch target injection (Spectre-2, CVE-2017-5715) non c’è invece ancora nessuna patch. VMware ha aggiornato il documento VMSA-2018-0007, ma non ancora il VMSA-2018-0004.2 che riporta come ultima versione del vCenter il 6.5 is still 6.5U1e!

Runecast Analyzer v1.7 with vSAN analysis

After the Meltdown and Spectre detection added in the previous releases, this latest version brings other interesting news. Runecast Analyzer is powered by the largest database of automated VMware KB articles which feed its internal archive of known issues. The interesting aspect of this tool is that it’s very easy and fast to be deployed and that it can work fully in offline mode!

Per la versione in inglese, vedere il post originale. VMware vSphere 6.5 è, al momento, l’ultima versione della soluzione di virtualizzazione server di VMware, ma la nuova versione (che potrebbe essere una “minor release”) è già testabile che vuole partecipare alla beta pubblica (per chi è interessato c’è la pagina di registrazione: https://secure.vmware.com/43478_vSphere_Beta_Reg).

Red Hat acquisisce CoreOS

Reading Time: 3 minutesRed Hat ha annunciato di aver siglato un accordo definitivo per l’acquisizione di CoreOS, uno dei leader di mercato nelle soluzioni Kubernetes e container-native, per $250 milioni, importo soggetto ad aggiustamenti in fase di chiusura che non si prevede siano materiali. La transazione – che si perfezionerà a gennaio 2018 – dovrebbe impattare materialmente il quarto trimestre fiscale di Red Hat che si chiude il 28 febbraio 2018.
