Vembu is a player in the backup and data protection world, maybe not (yet) well-know, but for sure not new at all and with a complete suite that covers the physical world, the virtual (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V) and also some public cloud SaaS solutions.

Seams that the new VMware vSphere 6.7 Update 1 will break all the Veeam Backup & Replication backup jobs!

As reported in the Veeam KB 2443, VMware 6.7 Update 1 is actually NOT supported by Veeam B&R and will be supported only with Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4.

After some months from the announce, finally VMware vSphere 6.7 Update 1 is now generally available (GA) and you can now download all the bits. Of course, this also mean a new version of the VMware vSAN 6.7 Update 1.

But more importantly it means also a fully featured vSphere Client with the new version of the HTML5 client in vSphere 6.7 Update 1! There is a bunch of videos available on YouTube with all the HTML5 client features.

But before read more, note that actually Veeam Backup and Replication does not support vSphere 6.7 Update 1, due to a critical issue in the backup (anyway there is a temporal workaround for this problem, but only Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 Update 4 will fully support the new vSphere 6.7 Update 1).

Each quarter, Backblaze realize an “hard disk stat” blog post with detailed information on (spinning) hard disk durability. Those reviews look at the quarterly and lifetime statistics for the data drive models in operation in Backblaze’s data centers.

As of September 30, 2018 Backblaze had 99,636 spinning hard drives. Of that number, there were 1,866 boot drives and 97,770 data drives. A lot to have some interesting data.

Violin Systems has announced it has signed a Letter of Intent with X-IO Technologies to acquire X-IO Storage, the division of X-IO Technologies that developed the popular Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) flash and hybrid storage array product lines.

Financial terms were not disclosed but the transaction is executed to be completed within 30 days.

This announce cames after few days the announce of the new Violing product XVS 8, confirming that the company is not only reborn, but is tring to get also back to the storage market.

In the last Veeam Community Forums Digest, there are some interesting notes about some possible issues with vSphere Storage vMotion, that usually is used to move backup your VMs in the original datastore during a Instant VM Recovery (IR).

Seems that there is major bug in Storage VMotion functionality of vSphere 6.7 when you are using the optional IR feature that allows you to redirect virtual disk updates to the selected datastore.

VMware PowerCLI 10.0.0 was new release of PowerCLI and the first to become multi-platform: it adds support for Mac OS and Linux! Thanks to Microsoft PowerShell Core 6.0, the open-sourced version of PowerShell that’s available on a number of operating systems, from Windows to Linux to Mac OS.

From this release (in January 2018) there was a new minor release every month to make sure we get the latest features, performance improvements, and updates available as quickly as possible.

But now there is a new major release: PowerCLI 11.0.0!
