VMware vCenter 6.5U1f per Meltdown e Spectre

Reading Time: 3 minutesVMware la rilasciato (ancora il 15 febbraio) una nuova versione della vCSA version: vCenter Server 6.5 U1f, che porta il build number a 7801515. In questa nuova versione della vCSA viene aggiornato il Photon contro due delle vulnerabilità relative alle problematiche Meltdown e Spectre. La nuova patch vCenter Server 6.5 U1f risolve le problematiche bounds-check bypass(Spectre-1, CVE-2017-5753) e rogue data cache load (Meltdown, CVE-2017-5754). Per la vulnerabilità branch target injection (Spectre-2, CVE-2017-5715) non c’è invece ancora nessuna patch. VMware ha aggiornato il documento VMSA-2018-0007, ma non ancora il VMSA-2018-0004.2 che riporta come ultima versione del vCenter il 6.5 is still 6.5U1e!

Per la versione in inglese, vedere il post originale. VMware vSphere 6.5 è, al momento, l’ultima versione della soluzione di virtualizzazione server di VMware, ma la nuova versione (che potrebbe essere una “minor release”) è già testabile che vuole partecipare alla beta pubblica (per chi è interessato c’è la pagina di registrazione: https://secure.vmware.com/43478_vSphere_Beta_Reg).

Reading Time: 8 minutesNotare che finalmente con il rilascio di vSphere 6.7 Update 1 il client HTML5 è completo. Nel corso della sua lunga storia, VMware vSphere ha avuto tanti client diversi. A partire da primi client web per l’host (in ESX 2.x), per passare ai client “thick” per sistemi Windows (lo storico C# vSphere Client), fino a tornare ai client web. Reading Time: 2 minutesIf you choose to install the vCSA 6.5 in two different components, you may have an error during the PSC custominization (happens also on latest 6.5U1): An error occurred while starting service ‘pschealth’ This it’s related to a failure of identity management service error on first boot, so during the phase 2 of the deployment where the appliance has already been upload, but still must be configured.

Reading Time: 6 minutesUsually when you upgrade to a new version of a product you may need also a new license key for it. But it’s not always true. For most of VMware’s products (for example VMware vSphere) a new license key is needed ONLY if you change the major number.
