On July 21st I’ve recevied an email from the VMware certification team for the first big changes in the transcript page: a unique ID for all VMware certifications and also consisten with the VUE ID. This also explay why, starting from VCP-Cloud, there was always the same VCP number also for new type of certifications. The result was a new transcript will all the ID replaced by one in the new form: VMW-00061532M-00014099. The last part is exactly the old VCP number.

My guess was that this could be the first step to have a sharing tool for the transcript (like other vendor transcripts):

Although there are some comparison between Hyper-V 2012 R2 (the version 4 of this product) and the existing vSphere 5.1 suite (like this one: Comparing WS2012 R2 Hyper-V and vSphere 5.1), I prefer keep consistency in the available product versions and compare the actual releases (and replace the precedent and old comparison between Hyper-V 2012 and vSphere 5.0).

The 3rd release of Microsoft Hyper-V and the VMware ESXi (and vSphere suite) 5.1 has similar technical features (and both of them are in the top-right Gartner quadrant), and probably for the first time, VMware has added one year ago some features (like the VMware vSphere Replication) to respond at the Hyper-V functionality (also some features, like Storage vMotion, has been moved to lower edition). I think that this a big value related to a good competition and customers are the first to gain the most advantages!

On a previous post, I’ve write on how build custom ESXi ISO with 3rd part tools. Those tools are not mentioned by VMware so probably are not supported. But you need a custom ISO in order to install ESXi on a host where the network drivers are missing (storage could be not an issue if you install it on a USB/Flash card).

The other solutions are use a vendor related custom ISO or the embedded version that probably already include the right drivers.

But in order to build your custom ISO you could use the same framework designed for the AutoDeploy solution. The advantages if that you study and understand better this part, that could be useful for the VCAP-DCA exam (for example).
