Reading Time: 3 minutesObjectiveFS implements a secure, cloud abd log structured filesystem on top of object stores, where existing software and tools can run seamlessly in the cloud. ObjectiveFS gives you a hassle-free storage backend, comparable to something great sysadmin teams set up and maintain, but without the setup and maintenance overhead. Initially it was able only to support AWS S3, but now there is also the (beta) support) for Google Cloud Storage and On-premise Object Store with S3-compatible API:

Reading Time: 8 minutesVMware vCloud Air è il servizio di public cloud fornito e gestito VMware (in precedenza noto con il nome di vCloud Hybrid Service) basato su vSphere e quindi compatibile quanto vi può essere on-premises, ovviamente nel caso anch’esso sia basato su soluzioni VMware. Al momento include diversi servizi, non solo a livello di infrastructure as a service, ma anche availability, disaster recovery, e tanti altri (ancora non è comparabile come offerta sul numero di servizi rispetto ad altri grossi player, ma i servizi stanno comunque crescendo). Lato IaaS abbiamo: Dedicated Cloud, Virtual Private Cloud, Virtual Private Cloud OnDemand.

Termine dell’extended support per Windows Server 2003

Reading Time: 4 minutesCome già molti sapranno, Windows Server 2003 (come pure la variante R2) ha raggiunto la fine del supporto esteso ed è da considerare come sistema operativo “obsoleto” e non più supportato. Le date chiave che bisognava conoscere per la famiglia Windows 2003 Server erano: 13 luglio 2010: fine del Mainstream Support per Windows Server 2003 (quindi già da più di 3 anni). 14 luglio 2015: fine dell’Extended Support per Windows Server 2003 (significa, ad esempio, niente più aggiornamenti di sicurezza).

Reading Time: 6 minutesVMware vRealize Operations Manager è il nuovo nome (a partire dalla versione 6.0) del prodotto vCenter Operations Manager, derivato a sua volta da un’acquisizione del 2011 di un’azienda e del suo relativo prodotto). Il nuovo nome identifica anche la nuova vRealize suite. Ma non si tratta solo di un semplice cambiamento di nome (l’ennesimo se si considera che inizialmente veniva chiamato anche vCOPs), ma di un cambiamento di sostanza: con la versione 6.0 (in realtà siamo già alla 6.0.2 e la beta della 6.1 è in fase avanzata) ci sono stati molti miglioramenti nella sostanza del prodotto […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesCome molti già sapranno, la partecipazione ad un VMUG (locale o SIG) è completamente gratuita come praticamente tutti i relativi benefici, come l’accesso alle risorse online (eventi, webinar, documenti), la partecipazione a meeting o UserConf locali (in realtà alcuni VMUG locali applicano una fee sulle UserCon, ma per il VMUG italiano questo non è mai successo). Però, se volete e/o siete interessati (fermo restando che non è obbligatorio per partecipare al VMUG), è possibile avere più benefici sottoscrivendo la VMUG Advantage, che è un modo interessante per ottenere sconti su traning, certificazioni, e tanto altro…

Reading Time: 8 minutesStarWind Software is a US privately held company (headquartered in Wakefield, Massachusetts, USA) which began in Feb 2009 as a spin-off from Rocket Division Software (founded in 2003), with its StarWind iSCSI Target solution as main product. After that, the company has grown and also the products have evolveld following the market trends and customer needs. Now their most interesting product is StarWind Virtual SAN: a scale-out and “shared-nothing” storage solution that works also with 2 nodes, configuration that can be really important for remote office and branch office (ROBO) or SMB cases.
