Disponibilità di VMware Horizon View 6

Reading Time: 2 minutesDopo l’annuncio di qualche mese fa, VMware ha da poco rilasciato Horizon View 6 in general availability (GA). Anche il nome ora è leggermente modificato in VMware Horizon (with View) 6.0, probabilmente anche in considerazione del fatto che la Horizon Suite non è più disponibile. Pure le edizioni sono cambiate nel nome: Horizon 6 (with View) viene venduto in 3 edizioni chiamate VMware Horizon™ View™ Standard Edition, VMware Horizon™ Advanced Edition e VMware Horizon™ Enterprise Edition.

Reading Time: 2 minutesSi è conclusa l’edizione 2014 del Server Infrastructure Days (SID), l’evento gratuito organizzato dalla community WindowServer.it in collaborazione con Microsoft Italia, dedicato alle tecnologie server di Microsoft. L’evento si è svolto il 18 e 19 giugno, presso il Microsoft Innovation Campus presso Microsoft Italia, ed esattamente come successo l’anno scorso si è caratterizzato da una grande partecipazione (già normalmente difficile per un evento di un giorno, figuriamoci per un evento di due giorni), molto interesse, ottimi sponsor ed il tutto spiegato da speaker di alto livello.

SanDisk is trying to buy Fusion-IO

Reading Time: 2 minutesChipmaker SanDisk Corp said it would buy the well know flash storage device maker Fusion-io Inc for about $1.1 billion. With this move SanDisk can doubled down on its strategy to target the enterprise and data centers, considering that Fusion-io is already used in the enterprise, with really big customers like Apple and Facebook. SanDisk is probably know more for the consumers products (lot of flash memory card are from this vendor), but has several interesting products also for the enterprise (see this post about their caching product).

Veeam annuncia il Veeam Cloud Connect

Reading Time: 4 minutesVeeam Software ha annunciato (lo scorso 11 giugno) una nuova funzione della Veeam Availability Suite v8, chiamata Veeam Cloud Connect. Questa nuova funzionalità è pensata per i Veeam Cloud Providers (VCPs), sia quelli già esistenti, che quelli nuovi, offre un modo facile di ospitare i backup per gli oltre 100.000 clienti Veeam. I clienti Veeam hanno quindi a disposizione uno strumento integrato, sicuro ed efficiente per trasferire i backup su un repository offsite gestito da un service provider di loro scelta, ma senza l’investimento di capitale anticipato necessario per un’infrastruttura offsite.

Reading Time: 6 minutesDurante il vForum 2014 di Milano dello scorso giovedì, si è svolto un interessante seminario su VMware NSX con molte informazioni e chiarimenti a riguardo di questo particolare prodotto (ma come capiremo è riduttivo classificarlo un “semplice” prodotto). Veeam Backup & Replication 7.0 patch 4

Reading Time: 3 minutesCome annunciato nell’articolo di KB di Veeam KB1891 (Patch 4 Release Notes for Veeam Backup & Replication 7.0) è disponibile una nuova patch per Veeam Backup & Replication 7. Questa patch in realtà era già disponibile da alcuni giorni, ma solo tramite il supporto tecnico; ora è disponibile ufficialmente anche dell’area download. Dopo l’aggiornamento, la nuova build diventerà la versione 7.0.0.871. Questa nuova patch introduce interessanti nuove funzionalità e nuove compatibilità. Come per le altre patch, anche questa è già cumulativa ed include già la Patch 1, R2 update e la Patch 3.

Atlantis Computing announces ILIO for VMware Virtual SAN

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAtlantis Computing has announced a new product: Atlantis ILIO for Virtual SAN, that mainly combined Atlantis ILIO with VMware Virtual SAN and VMware Horizon 6 with the declared intention to build a ultimate hyper-converged platform for VDI. Atlantis ILIO will insert a transparent software layer between the virtual machine and the underlying storage infrastructure. The joint solution leverages pooled local solid state drives (SSDs) and hard disks (HDDs) created by VSAN with Atlantis ILIO to optimize the resultant storage pool improving storage performance and increasing the available storage capacity provided to the application.
