CloudPhysics improve its public cloud cost calculators

CloudPhysics provide a SaaS service of data-driven insights for smarter IT quite powerful e with lot of features. One interesting feature is the Cloud Cost Calculators to better understand your public cloud costs and when they can be cheaper compared to the on-prem solution of also compared across multiple cloud provider.

Now they announced that it has added Cloud Planning Rightsizer analytics to its Public Cloud Cost Calculators for enterprises who want to move to the public cloud and their channel partners. CloudPhysics’ Cloud Cost Calculators discover the configuration of every virtual machine (VM) in the data center and determine the cloud instance that best fits those discovered configurations. The Cloud Planning Rightsizer then examines the resource consumption patterns of those VMs and automatically identifies the on-premises VMs that are over-provisioned and have more resources than they need. The customer can then “rightsize” the VM and see what the costs would be to run the smaller, more appropriate VM in the public cloud.

Now, during the event Cisco Live they announced a collaboration with Cisco to further deliver a turnkey enterprise cloud solution that enables customers to innovate faster, and respond to market opportunities with start-up speed and enterprise reliability. The integration of SwiftStack 4.0 with Cisco Metapod enables enterprise customers to build public cloud storage capabilities into their on-premises data centers. The new solution is available from Cisco and builds on SwiftStack’s membership in the Cisco Solution Partner Program.

StorMagic announce SvSAN 6

Microsoft MVP award 2016

Il programma Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award è il modo con cui Microsoft ringrazia e riconosce i leader delle community indipendenti che condividono la propria passione, esperienza tecnica e competenza effettiva dei prodotti Microsoft. Microsoft riconosce il ruolo fondamentale che queste persone ricoprono nell’adozione e nello sviluppo della tecnologia, nonché nel fornire assistenza agli utenti con i prodotti Microsoft. Questo ha ispirato il riconoscimento Microsoft MVP Award. Quasi venti anni fa, sono stati conferiti riconoscimenti a 37 leader delle community tecniche come MVP.

Questo premio è più un riconoscimento che una certificazione ed ha valore annuale. Il concetto è molto simile a quello adottato (spesso successivamente) da altre vendor per riconoscere l’impegno nelle relative “community” (come il caso di VMware con il programma vExpert).

Top virtualization blog 2016 – Risultati finali

Dopo che sono stati annunciati i primi 25 #TopvBlog2016 e i relativi vincitori nelle varie categorie, dopo qualche giorno sono stati pubblicati anche i risultati finali della “competizione” annuale Voting for the 2016 top VMware & virtualization blogs.

I risultati e le liste dei migliori blog in ambito virtualizzazione sono disponibili sul sito vSphere-land. I primi posti di ogni categoria forse non rappresentano una sorpresa (nella maggior parte dei casi erano quelli che, giustamente, mi aspettavo), con una buona predominanza di persone VMware e Nutanix… ma anche di VCDX… ma soprattutto con l’evidenza che chi lavora molto (incluse le partecipazioni ai VMUG) ottiene grossi risultati. Il primo posto ovviamente non era in dubbio… oramai è più una conferma o un modo per iniziare la lista, ma il primo è sicuramente Duncan Epping.
