Mangstor Inc is a storage company founded on 2012 and based at Austin (TX) with a deep expertise in storage and networking, especially in NVMe Flash Storage Solutions to accelerate application workloads in web-scale and enterprise data centers.

They have an interesting storage appliance: the NX-Series is and NVMe over Fabric All Flash Storage Arrays (AFA) that can be deployed centrally and accessed by many servers connected via high-bandwidth, low-latency RDMA networks.

Atlantis hyperconverged solutions for ROBO

Atlantis Computing has announced the HyperScale CX-4 product targeted for distributed datacenters and also the ROBO (Remote Office/Branch Office) scenarios.

The CX-4 appliance is a two-node hyperconverged integrated system with compute, all-flash storage, networking and virtualization designed for ROBO and micro data centers.

The hardware configuration include two nodes with 4 TB of effective storage capacity and 48 compute cores in a compact 2U footprint, available with different appliances brads: Atlantis (with Supermicro hardware), Dell (with the support of the FX2 platform), HP, Lenovo and Cisco (this partnership was added during the last VMworld):

Veeam Availability Suite v9 è disponibile per il download

Finalmente ci siamo: Veeam Software ha da poco annuncitato la disponibilità della versione 9 di Veeam Availability Suite e ovvialemente delle altre suite/edizioni relative a Backup & Replication e Veeam ONE. La nuova versione e le relative novità erano state annunciate officialmente durante l’ultimo VeeamON.

Errore nel VSS con Veeam Endpoint

Utilizzando Veeam Endpoint vi potreste scontrare non vari problemi relativi alle componenti di Microsoft VSS che sul sistema operativo client non sono così stabili e deterministiche come sul sistema operativo server. A volte si ferma il servizio, a volte non funziona come ci si aspetta. E questo ovviamente impatta Endpoint che usa questi servizi per “congelare” lo stato sul disco per poi eseguirne una copia.

Già alcuni mesi fa avero riportato un possibile problema quando si utilizzava l’esclusione dei file in Veeam Endpoint (vedere anche Errore in Veeam Endpoint: unable to exclude files from shapshot).

Una settimana fa ne è comparso uno nuovo e i vari job di backup hanno iniziato a segnalare ogni giorno questo messaggio:

05/01/2016 00:32:17 :: Unable to exclude files from snapshot: Shadow Copy Optimization Writer timed out (see Windows event log for more info).

Issue with vMotion: PBM error during pre-check

VMware vSphere 6.0 has got some issues, like the several related to CBT and data protection, during the first years of its life. Mostly is finally resolved, but you may still have strange issuesespecially during the upgrade procedure (most when you start from a vSphere 5.1 version).

I notice, after an upgrade, also a strange behavior with vMotion where live VM migration fails with this error:

A general system error occurred: PBM error occurred during PreMigrateCheckCallback: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Cambiare il certificato del PernixData FVM Manager

Chi ha provato (o sta utilizzando) PernixData FVP si sarà accorto che ogni volta accedete al manager vi comparirà un warning legato al certificato. Anche se importate il certificato, il warning permane.

Questo perché il certificato che viene installato è statico (e non generato al momento) e contiene come nome del server la stringa fvp.pernixdata.com che difficilmente corrisponderà al vostro FQDN del manager server. Quindi il certificato non è valido non solo per la CA che non è trusted (e questo sarebbe risolvibile importando il certificato), ma anche perché il nome non corrisponde (e questo non può essere risolto con la semplice importazione del certificato, ma bisogna rigenerare il certificato).

Per risolvere il problema serve quindi un certificato self-signed (previo poi importalo nel proprio client) oppure un certificato valido rilasciato da una CA attendibile (anche interna).
